You guys are the best!!
Katie, I am so sorry that you are having troubles with this as well. I hate this whole thing but it is nice to not feel so alone. The endo doc told us the same thing about the A1C that it really isn't a great indicator for cf patients. It would have been high for diagnosing non cf diabetes. His A1C was completely normal. Most of his finger prick readings were normal he just has some high readings that occur randomly. Before our admission last month, I was monitoring his levels at home. Then when he was admitted, they continued to monitor him and were concerned about some high values, but the A1C was normal. We were so relieved that we didn't get the type 1 diagnosis on top of CF!! However, I was told that it is most likely that he would be dealing with CFRD at a much younger age. As of right now he is doing okay and doesn't need to supplement insulin but we are being followed by the endocrine doctor affiliated with the cf center.

I have to say I am better today. Yesterday I just got one piece of bad news after the other. We went to clinic and expected it to be uneventful so it was shocking.

The CF doctor called me last night and we will go in and see her in a couple of weeks again. I am glad we don't have to go to that place for a couple of weeks. They really feel it is not the enzyme brand and that he just needs that high of a dose. I am shocked at how quickly all of this happened.

Thank you all for the support. We know what is causing the high blood sugars and yes infections and steroids don't help! His IVs didnt het rid of the bacteria in his lungs so I guess he is always fighting that infection. Thankfully, since his diagnosis he hasn't been on many steroids. Just at this last tune up he was on orapred for 5 days and nothing strange happened.

All of your thoughts were so great and I am so thankful to have this site to come too. I hope you all have a wonderful holiday!! And hopefully I see you in chat tonight!!

Kelly,

I always had way more digestive issues as a youngster than lung issues. I was always the smallest kid in my class. And I guess I still do have my stomach issues. I just keep on taking my enzymes like I'm supposed to. I just started Zenpep and so far, I like it.

And I was diagnosed with CFRD when I was 17 (once I quit becoming so active in extracurriculur activities).

And a huge thanks to Marty...love your response <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

I didn't have any advice to give you really, Kelly, just wanted you to know that you aren't alone...and it may not be as bad as you think <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

Stay positive!!! It makes all the difference in the world <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">
