pancreas?

I've had some abdominal pain the last couple of days and am wondering if it may have something to do with my pancreas.

It began with sudden sweating, nausea, and really severe pain right under my rib cage. After 30 minutes to an hour, it suddenly went completely away on its own.

A couple of hours later, it came back, but was never as severe again. Over the next couple of days, it gradually died down until it is now a pain in one specific section on my left side, right at the bottom of my rib cage, which hurts straight through to my back. It seems to just be staying that way now. It's more annoying than painful, but concerns me a little bit.

My primary doctor is out of the country, and I hated to bother my pulmonary or ID docs with something unrelated, so just saw a "pot luck doctor" at my Kaiser clinic. She kept telling me it was reflux, even though it was obvious she could tell the continued pain on the left side didn't add up, especially since it made me flinch each time she touched it. I got the impression she didn't know and didn't want to mess with it.

She did check for a bacteria called H. Pylori, which apparently can cause an ulcer in the intestine with those kinds of symptoms. That made sense, but I don't have results yet and am really wondering if these symptoms would be normal for pancreatitis.

Anyone have any thoughts or similar experiences?

Could it be an issue with your gall bladder? Wait, that'd be your right side... Kidney stone? Have you still been able to stool?

Yes, everything's been working fine, although I've been slightly constipated.

Now, kidney stone issues are common in my family, although I've never had that problem myself. Would that be the correct area?

Gall bladder was the doctor's first question also--she asked me if I was sure it was on the left side, not the right =) Pretty confident I have that down by this age!

A couple summers ago a relative had similar symptoms, but on the right side due to gallbladder issues and another had similar issues -- nausea, chills, pain that radiated to the back and had a kidney stone.
