Pancreatitis

I had pancreatitis once over 20 years ago, and have not had again since, thank god. It is one of the most painful experiences I've ever had, rates up there with childbirth. I felt like I had a 10" knife in my gut for a week, accompanied by fever, chills, and extreme nausea.

I was dx CFRD about 3 months after that episode, so I'm sure they were connected. I've read that other than alcoholics, pancreatitis is most common in CF patients.

Anyone else ever had this evil beast?

Hi Jodi -

I like your apt description of pancreatitis as an evil beast - lol! I am just finished with my latest episode from a couple weeks ago. Thankfully for the most part I don't get a fever with my episodes, usually just the pain, I described it to someone as kind of like heartburn on acid and occasional nausea and vomiting. I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy. Just wanted to let you know that you are not the only one that has gotten this nasty!

Be well,

Lori
45 fwcf, dx'ed age 25 as well!

I've "officially" had it once (and now here I am, 3 1/2 years later, with CFRD too- and I was thinking the same thing...), but after I was diagnosed with it that time, I realized I have had it more than once (take some enzymes, clinic said *rolls eyes*).

It is awful.

My grandmother had it chronically, and took the same enzymes that I took when I was a kid.
