Ativan is not good for your breathing but if your lung function is ok, I guess there is no danger. I was told by my pulmo doctor that before tx, it can suppress the breathing.

There are so many techniques that work and you do not need drugs. You might need to be taught by a professional but it is worth the investment or you can buy your own books and learn it yourself.

The techniques that work wonders are Emotional Freedom Technique. You can google it

Energy Medicine by Donna Eden and DAvid Feinstein PhD. Awesome book, holding your triple warmer meridian points will HELP with panic attacks. If you buy the book, I will help anyone through PM or email. I have helped others on this site.

On an important side note: untreated depression can cause panic attacks/anxiety.

If you suffer from anxiety, you would do well to be on a good anti-depressant for maintenance (prozac is a good one for anxiety/ocd, there may be others, but prozac worked the best for me), and then you have the anti-anxiety for "flare ups", as a back up...when stresses go above and beyond "normal"

Once you get your anxiety under control, you have more brain energy to use on the normal things that we face everyday. When anxiety is out of control, the simple things become overwhelming.

That's why I say, If you need it, take it.

I had never taken ativan. I have however been on zoloft, paxil, buspar and a few others for panic attacks.

Anxiety is the worst Seana and if your doc thinks it's ok for you to take it....I think you should. However; I have done this alot lately, call him and ask him why he picked ativan instead of the other drugs available.

Maybe that discussion will help you feel better about taking it, or maybe he'll give you an RX for something else...
