Marci, I'm sorry you are having anxiety/panick attacks. I struggle with this, and it is very scary. Even though this has been happening to me for a long time now, I still find it very difficult to cope with.
I've learned some little tricks to help myself regain control when they happen. BTW, I have no health insurance on myself, and I let my meds go (lexapro) in order to buy Jordan's, so I have had no help with a maintenance drug for a while now.
Like Diane, I pray when I feel one coming on. My faith has really given me strength through all of this. Also, like Seana, my husband can calm me down like nobody else. I sometimes try to distract myself with something like a book, or I start a cleaning project.
I'm one of the most logical people I know, so having this happen for no apparent reason just makes me so upset. I'm also very much a control freak, and I tell myself that there is nothing wrong, and I have no reason to panick, so why is this happening!!!??? Ugh, it's very frustrating.
I have noticed a significant drop in frequency of the attacks since starting an exercise routine. Exercise helps in so many areas of our health, and mental health is no exception. I hope you find something that works for you, but you are definitely not alone.
