Pari neb compressor

Hello again everyone!
Quick question. I have had a Pari Trek S for about 3 1/2 years. It actually quit nebulizing properly a year or so ago and I have been using a Pulmo-Aide I bought out of pocket since. After reading on here that Pari's have a 5 year manufacturer warranty I called the medical equipment company I got it from to have it replaced. When i went to pick up the replacement, the place closed at 5 and I got there at about 4:55. So, like an idiot, I didn't even really look into the bag to see what they were giving me. Just assumed it was the same thing. When I got it home I realized it was a Philips Respironics OptionHome. At first i didn't really care because I was never impressed with the Pari. But after more thinking it kinda started to bug me because I feel like if it is a manufacturer warranty it should be replaced with the same manufacturer. I did a quick google search showed that the Philips costs less than half of what the Pari cost. So essentially they replaced it w/about the cheapest compressor on the market. So this doesn't sit quite right w/me. They will get a replacement Pari when they return mine to the manufacturer and can then turn around and sell it for more money? Also, aren't Pari's the preferred brand for CF patients? I know my respiratory therapist specifically requested the Pari.

Anyway, guess I'm wondering what you would do? Am I being petty or am I wrong about the replacement thing altogether? Maybe they can replace it with whatever they want? I'm not sure if I should call and push the issue or let sleeping dogs lie. Let me know what you think please. Also, if anyone has the Philips Respironics OptionHome will you let me know what you think of it?

Wow. that was wordy! thanks for sticking w/me. One more thing I wanted to add: Long story but I have been less than impressed with this medical equipment company. I think that's another reason this isn't sitting right with me. So maybe my annoyance with them is causing me to be bothered by this situation!
Okay now I'm really done! Thanks again!

I've always just contacted Pari directly and they've shipped me a new compressor. Last time I called them, they shipped me a new one overnight and I returned the old one to them.

The only time I've dealt with the DME is with DS' Devilbiss, because the company prefers the DME ships them the faulty compressor and then we have to wait 3 weeks for the replacement.

Our DME doesn't carry Pari compressors or parts, so I just have bought compressors out of pocket rather than going thru them.

Thanks Liza. I did the same thing with my Pulmo-Aid, just bought out of pocket. I wanted the old school Pulmo-Aid again because prior to the Pari Trek I had a Pulmo-Aid that had lasted me 10+ years.

I maybe should have contacted Pari directly, but since I had got it from the DME supplier I figured I needed to go through them. They obviously carry Pari, since I got the first one from them. So they should be able to replace with another one (I would think). I wouldn't really mind at this point if we would have had to wait for them to ship the old one back and wait on a new one like you have to do with your Devilbiss.

We'll see what I end up doing! Thanks a bunch for your reply!

Hi Autumn, I used to have a Pulmo-Aid when I was a baby, and it lasted until I was 21. Actually, it was still running just fine when I replaced it, but I wanted a smaller, newer compressor because it was quite big and ugly. Since then, I have gone through other Devilbiss, Philips, and Pari compressors, none of which have been as good or have lasted as long. I have always gone through DME companies, and it seems like in the recent years they have just been giving me the cheapest neb machine they have in stock. I am not thrilled with going through DME companies, and sometimes you have to fine one that is really good and that can get you what you want, because most of them just give whatever they have on hand that costs the least. I think what probably happened is that they didn't have any Pari compressors in stock, so they just gave you what they had. If you had specifically requested that they replace it with the same one (and then they had to special order it), it could have taken awhile to get it. Just this week, my Pari compressor pooped out on me, and it hasn't even been a year. So like Liza said, I also contacted Pari directly, who is shipping me a new one today. At this point, you could probably just use the Philips. If you go back to the DME company, it could be awhile before it gets straightened out, and it will just cause you more stress than it's worth really. Once that dies, see if you can get a Pulmo-Aid. That's what I'm going to do when my Pari dies again

I went through 2 of those little Pari's in just over 3 months.
I went back to my Pulmo-Aids.. They have worked great for years.

Good Luck.. Pari has a 5 year Replacement Warranty . But 2 in 3 months is just a pain.
They are made in Mexico . maybe that is the problem,

We've actually got a pulmo-aide that's over 20 years old, that we use as a spare at my outlaws. Belonged to a cousin's kid who had asthma. That's how we found out our original pari proneb ultra was faulty and that it shouldn't take over 25 minutes to neb duoneb. Oh and that first Pari we got from the DME affiliated with the hospital -- insurance was billed for $365. I bought one out of pocket for $49 a few years later.

Currently we have a devilbiss pulmoaide for our every day machine and a Pari Vios, which we use in the tv/rec room or travel with as it's more compact. I'd love to get a Mobileaire, but as long as the warranties are still in affect for the machines we have and we're not having to replace them too often, we'll deal with them.

I think you should take it back and tell them you want a proper replacement. I returned a Pari pump to the health supply store where I bought it. They offered a loaner until the replacement arrived. Pari ended up replacing the pump with a brand new one.

Me, I just need a quieter one LOL. I have to crank up my TV just to hear it, and no it does not have headphone jack. Plus I cannot hear when I am being called downstairs while I am doing it, which has led to more then one time of issues.
