Partial lung removal

Has anyone's child had part of a lung removed? The dr.'s are discussing it right now for my son and they said it was not very common. No matter how many times we go back to the hospital we cannot clean his lower left lobe out. They ran some tests and there is no air flow through that part of the lung and it is a bacterial breeding ground because it is compacted with mucus. Does anyone know much about this kind of surgery? I don't know a lot about it.

I'm sure you will get reponses, but should be a link to Jodi's March 30 blog where she had possibly a similar procedure as the docs are contemplating.

Also, MOME2RT has a son who had a partial lung removal. You should check her blog out as well.

Good luck to you and your son. <img src="i/expressions/heart.gif" border="0">
