passing out from coughing

I think we are expelling all of the CO2 that we can (which isn't much in some of our cases!) and are having a hard time getting the oxygen back in. When I cough really hard it's hard to even take a breath between the coughs and am just coughing out more than anything. I've coughing so hard I've nearly fainted, I've thrown up, I've had nosebleeds start and before my hysterectomy I'd pop out tampons! Bet you're glad you don't have THAT problem. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif" border="0">

That would be good to get checked out then. If you are truly passing out, you are probably starving for oxygen. If your oxygen goes too low, you can lose consciousness, and that is a big concern. Starving the body for oxygen to the point of passing out can lead to lung damage, and even brain damage. When is the last time you were to a cf clinic? If you are coughing that bad, especially consistently, and experiencing those results, you may be well due for a tune-up.

Just my thoughts

I have had this same problem (although being blacked out for two hours seems excessive and not like what I am talking about at all) and I was having vasovagal syncope, also known as a vasovagal response. This response happens after a sudden drop in blood pressure and heart rate which can cause the blood flow to the brain to be cut off temporarily, causing unconciousness. The body generally regains conciousness in a few seconds or minutes after it is laid out flat allowing the blood flow back to the brain. This can be caused by excessive coughing. This has nothing to do with oxygen or CO2 levels.

But... I am not a doctor (I find it funny how many people on here give advice like they are) and I would definitely get it checked out. I don't think passing out for "two hours" is typical to vasovagal syncope.
