Passing Time In The Hospital

The Meropenem made me sick as well. I think everyone can find one thing they can always eat during that kind of time... Though it wasn't the best diet, I could always eat Junior Mints those two weeks. I ate other stuff too of course. inbetween the nausea spells. But Mike brought me home Junior Mints almost every day because they were the only thing that always sounded yummy.

I just took my daughter to the Dr today & she had a sinus infection & the Dr said to eat yogurt w/ her antibiotic to help w/ upset stomach--so you're not crazy sounding after all, Diane I had heard of yogurt to combat yeast infections, but not as a stomach soother. I guess I learn something new everyday!

Yes yogurt is a good thing, I had some this morning...thanks Diane! I always try to eat yogurt and take probiotics so my stomach doesnt get upset during a cleanout. Today I got up and out of the house to go see a movie...I forced myself to go and I felt a little better. I am going to start back at my internship a few hours a week starting on friday. The problem with the nausea is I keep thinking about foods that make me want to throw up...they just pop into my head and its awful because it makes my stomach turn...then I cant stop thinking about them!!

I wanted to respond to Lindsey-- I always get my PICCs placed in Interventional Radiology....for about 5 years now ever since the nurses started having a really hard time putting them in up on the floor. Now that I go to IR I cant imagine doing it the other way where they essentially are doing it blind. Plus I like the IR ones because they are placed high above my elbow which allows me to fully move my elbow. Every once in a while they will say something like "oh so and so is reallllly good" YEAH, RIGHT...thanks but no thanks, I've heard THAT a million times! Now I schedule the IR thing in advance and if I cant get an appt. right away I get a peripheral. They are hard to get but not as bad and usually you can get one to just last a day or two even though the medicine stings.

Another gross thing...today the nurse came to my house to draw blood (those home nurses are always bad) and she had to draw it out of the side of my wrist, right by the bone. it was disgusting...just another venting topic. I love when nurses or whoever are like "oh my, that vein is just hiding isn't it."
Its amazing because the phlebotomists at the hospital get it in two seconds, even though I have bad veins.

I too have problems with PICC lines going in at the bedside. I go down to radiology, unfortunately, it takes those guys a few good hard pokes to get it in too. One time there was a new med student doing it...took him 3 tries and the first time, he hit a nerve...I felt an electric shock in my forearm, and he was above my elbow

HI,
My little brother just passed away in march with cystic fibrosis. My brother, a few of my little brothers friends, and myself have grouped together to found an organization based on entertainment of those who have to pass time in the hospital. We have titled the company Cystic Fibrosis Extreme (CFeX) for short. Now my brother and I are big gamers, my little brothers friends are fond of the computer and board games. Mind you, we just now recieved our stamp on our articles, we are now filling for non profit statis and for tax exemption. We are based out of Oceanside Ca, and I would love to know more things that would help YOU pass time. Anything and everything, dvd's, board games, computers ( laptops), Video game consoles and video games, whatever you think would help pass the time for YOU in the hospital. e-mail me with any help or advice and we would all greatly appreciate it. thank you!!!
