I get this from time to time. I described it recently to my ENT as guacamole like. :) He says its not a real issue unless it happens more frequently. For me it happens maybe 3-4 times per year.

After my first tx, I had my first sinus surgery and when I started taking my anti rejection medications, I would have and still continue to have some (about three tiny mucus plugs twice a week). I irrigate my sinuses daily.

I have FOUND that if I am run down I see more. I think it is possible that you are clearing house like above poster mentioned.

I also observed when I ate a ton of dairy and soy that I saw more and I would have a tickle in my cough and boom, out came a flying pea. oh no a flying pea!

Since I have been off dairy and soy products for over a month, I think the mucus that is released like you and I have experienced can also be a result of too much sugar in our systems. I eat very healthy but if I overdo fruit, I also notice more mucus.

All in all, I tend to think that this is all related to many factors. My advice is too look into irrigation daily. Talk to an ENT and see what they say.

I am taking one medication that tends to create more sinus infections in tx patients. When I was on another medication, I never saw any peas. If I saw a tiny something it was the size of a dot. The drug is cellcept.

Check your immune system (white count) keep track of all this and stay away from other sick people when you see peas.

Also, observe how you feel on the days you feel and see the peas.

My peas are dislodge around 3-5 in the morning. My hunch is that it is related to the lung meridian as lung meridian is in full gear between 3-5 AM. I use to always wake up Coughing at 4AM on the nose (pardon my pun) when I had Cf lungs.

Observe and take note. Please share what you find.

Wow. The fact that I can read this while eating breakfast and not puke is a testament to how sturdy our guts are as CFers! LOL. In all seriousness though, dark mucus, especially if it's green is a sign of infection. If you can, save one of your "peas" in a tissue, put it in a sealable baggie, and ask your doc to have the lab look at it. You might need to be on antibiotics for a sinus infection.

If you start seeing carrots with your peas, then I'd really worry! lol
