Pediatric Mask Turning Yellow

Before I ask the question, let me introduce myself. I have
been on this site on and off for the last 4-5 years...had a login a
long time ago and forgot it and have mostly posted as anon, until
now :) I have a 6 year old girl with CF who thankfully
is doing amazing! I will from time to time post more about
her! My question now is about pediatric masks....I only use
them on my daughter when she is sleeping, but I recently noticed
that one has turned yellow. I wash them every time by boiling
them in either soap and water or vinegar and water so I am not sure
if that is causing it or if it is just time for me to throw it
out...any advice is welcome.
Thanks!
The plastic turns yellow after extended use. Its not a problem. When you are in clinic next time, ask if they have an extra neb mask. Doesn't hurt to have a back-up.

I also use the Pari Toddler masks on my son twice a day. They also turn yellowish after extended washing and boiling. I try to replace at least every 6 months.

From your message, I was not sure exactly what type of ped. mask you are using. I am guessing that it is the soft plastic, since they do tend to get yellow after repeated sterilization. We have been told that these masks can and should be replaced frequently. Our insurance will provide 2 a month, although we were not good at replacing them that often. We actually switched from the soft plastic pediatric masks (Pari's "Bubble the fish" type) to a hard plastic ped. mask, made of the same materials as the Pari nebulizer. They are harder to find, but they really hold up and can last, like Megan says, up to six months. That we, we just replace the mask every time we replace the Pari neb chamber.

Hope that helps, and I am glad to hear your daughter is doing great!

Thank you all so much for your replies! Laura - where do you get the masks you mentioned? I am interested in getting some so I don't have to worry about replacing so often! I usually throw mine out ever month and would love to keep them around for 6 months :)

Can you boil the bubbles fish mask? I'm always worried it'll melt after the time I melted a nonpari nebulizer. Liza
