peeling soles on feet.......

Hey all, i was just wondering if this is cf related or not.

I have noticed that during the warmer weather, when Olivia sweats alot that her soles of her feet begin to peel.
When i lick her foot ( clean foot) lol, its tastes realy salty and also feels very dry. I am assuming all this is heppening because of the amount of salt she is loosing.

I hope this is making sence, i don't know how else to word it.

Is it a common thing amongst cfer's?
Is it salt realted? and
Can anything be done to prevent her feet from peeling?

Any info would be appreciated

Thanks Eli

I do have excessively dry feet & I am sure much of it is from the salt drying the skin out. I am always scratching them. I dont take the time to put lotion on or get pedicures regularly which would help.

I never used to get dry feet until I moved from Brisbane (humid) to Canberra (dry). Now they peel all the time, but so do my boyfriend's (without CF).

Peeling feet and/or palms is sometimes the end result of a fever or particular sickness that has come and gone. Peeling feet/palms is VERY common with scarlet fever and scarletina. It may also be the result of athlete's foot (especially if it's itchy).

I have noticed with my own feet when they sweat a lot and then get dried out is that the salt crystals act as an unintentional exfoliant, rubbing little pieces of dead skin right off. It's nothing major like a peel after a bad sunburn--it's more along the same lines of what I usually remove from my feet in the tub using a pumice stone.

If it's just a seasonal thing (and not connected to fever etc.) then just do what you can to control the dryness, and be sure that feet are thoroughly dried after a shower or bath. I don't think it's specifically CF related, but if dryness is a big problem, at bedtime try slathering the feet with Bag Balm (it's like Vaseline but has menthol-like stuff in it) then putting on clean dry sock. I do that a LOT during the winter months.

Happy feet!

I have dry cracking heels in the winter, but almost never in the summer. In the winter i just use hand lotion after my shower and before bed . That usually eases the problem. When i forget to put on lotion and my heels start to get that cracked look, i mix some vaseline in with the hand lotion and rub it on generously and then put on socks. I doubt it is cf related.... but who knows

I remember there was a thread in the summer about excessive pruning of hands and feet when swimming and bathing. It seemed a lot of people with CF prune up a lot more and a lot faster (maybe due to the salt loss?). I know someone had said how their child's feet were peeling really bad after swimming too long.

Maybe your daughters feet are just getting really sweaty and staying damp, making them peel? I know Vinny's feet sweat terribly. I would try letting her run around w/out socks on a little each day so her feet dry out a little.

Not sure if this is helpful, it just reminded me of that thread. I'll see if I can find it and post a link...
