people who constantly complain

I have encountered people like that. Some are that way by nature. I knew an elderly woman who was widowed with no kids (she despised kids) and had to be the center of attention. I gave her no respect because she certainly didnt give it out.

I also encounter people like my Mom who just get crabbier with age. I understand how my Mom feels physically. The limitations that are placed upon her that she hates so much & after living like that for so long you are bound to get grouchy. My Mom also is one that should I discuss similiar instances between her & I that she turns it into a competition of sorts and it ends up being ALL about her.

Then there are the "normal" elderly ones that I like. They have the aches & pains that come with age, but try not to harp on it. They have compassion & believe me when I say I relate. They listen to me & like to be listened to. Sadly this group has the fewest members.

I try to remember that chances are good most seniors have lived with aches, pains & other problems for many years, but at the same time.....in a way....isnt that what getting old is about. Unlike CF where we feel the same very, very early on.

Vent away my new forum buddy, vent away!

I currently date a 92 year old grand mother and she also complains a lot. Especially on Friday nights when I whip out the gallon of peanut oil and the slip-n-slide in the living room.

Thank you Melissa. I hope you do not live with your mom.

I know I have heard that we should never compare ourselves to others people's problems so where do we draw the line?

For the man who has no shoes, should he talk about his lack of shoes to the little boy who has no feet? I know I twisted that one around a bit lol

There will always be someone worse off than us but I am trying to find peace that my ole grandma like she always would call herself "maybe I am stupid" is not too bright? That was another sympathy card she would throw at me.

I feel if someone does not appreciate their own life, it is not my fault and I do not need to listen to their complaining even if they are part of my own flesh and blood. It is one thing to vent every now and then but every single time is rather disturbing. Year after year day after day.

Maybe old people know that young people have little patience for them so they play that game, I know you do not like me so I will piss you off just to get even.
