Perceptions of CF

I think it is a lack of "enough" information out there.

I recently wrote several blog posts at my domestic blog about Cystic Fibrosis (during CF Awareness Month). The people who were brave enough to leave comments said they thought CF was ONLY a lung disease.

I definitely agree with the lack of information. It gets frustrating when people have heard of it, but know absolutely nothing about it.

Sometimes I get discouraged when so much time on our local news is devoted to cancers, and while it's a good thing that so much awareness is being raised, I wish they'd devote time to other things as well. For heavens sake, a walk for dogs gets commercials and air time on the news. A little story about the CF walk couldn't hurt.

Truthfully I can say I have not seen any commercials etc for CF. The one show where I sasw it mentioned was like you say its pesty but no biggie.

That was an issue when my daughter got pregnant she really had been mostly healthy doing her tx in hospital rarely so her fiance never saw her sick. Her doctor told us all she would need lots of help and carrying baby and just rasing could cause major issues. Her fiance I guess never really understood at one point he told her that based on what he read a woman who is pregnant with CF her lung function is better and gets better after baby is born, almost like having a baby took away CF.

I am not sure where he got the info casue that sure was not what the doctor was saying

I do get irritated at the idea that CF gets portrayed as a childhood disease, when we know know that it clearly isn't. I raise my own awareness when ever I can, because what people do know about CF isn't always a fact. For example my own cousin was told "black people don't get CF", and she believed the doctor who told her that. I had another friend who thought you could "grow" out of CF since it was a childhood disease.
