Hi,
I just wanted to share some good news (with all the negative posts recently I thought it might cheer us up). My daughter had her first bronchoscopy last week and it went very well. Our CF doc told us her lungs looked like a healthy non CFers lungs!!! Can you imagine? I was grinning ear to ear and wanted to jump up and down! Since it was her first b-scopy we did not know what to expect, now we just have to keep up our regimen and hope next years is just as good! Thanks for letting me share. Somehow others w/o CF knowledge aren't as capable of understaning our excitement.

It's great to hear your good news. We are going for a bronch next month, how did she feel after? I am soooo scared about the bleeding or even a colasped lung. WE Cf moms just worry about EVERYTHING!!! I know ours wont be that good cuz he is full of junk. Specially on the lower left lobe. But Im still praying for a good result. Let ya know when we find out. Do they let you watch or have the tape of the procedure?? I know some adults can watch cuz they are just sedated, but of course Reece will out like a light.

Avery was really angry when she came out of her b-scopy, because they would not take the needle out of her hand (from the IV during surgery) until she drank some juice. Of course she didn't drink the juice until I made the take the needle out. She was even trying to bite the needle off of her hand, when I held her other hand down. But after that incident was over she ate lunch and was completely normal. We did not get to watch or see have a video copy, but we did get a copy of all the pictures they took, which was pretty neat. We plan on keeping the pictures so we can compare them to her future b-scopy pics. Good luck on your son's b-scopy and maybe your good news will be an improvement in his lungs!

Good news. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

About the needle incident- when I was about 12, I came out of a bronch speaking VERY loudly and saying over and over again "my throat hurts like HELL!" My mom was in the room (she had watched the entire bronch actually) and said that all the nurses were smiling and laughing a little. Maybe the sedation has a side affect of agiatation as it wears off, LOL.

My Doctor recently asked me if I had a bronc and I never have.. I wasn't dx till I was 29.. I am wondering what the reason is to do a bronch?? I have great PFTS and am doing really good... most of the time...

Just wondering why they do bronchs????

Thanks

I agree with the above poster. They did a b-scopy on my daughter to get a baseline on how she is now. My daughters docs are very aggresive they do b-scopys on all of their patients who are willing once a year. Many people on this site do not agree with doing b-scopy's regularly. They believe it is too dangerous to do one just to see how they person is doing. But to each his own.

My son is always SO aggitated after he comes outs of the meds. The worst was when he was just 1 and they did a biopsy on his intestines. (Before the CF diagnosis...the knuckle heads thought he had celiac...and had already 'ruled out CF') But he screamed and physically fought for over an hour. And the staff just left us alone in the room with this kid. The bronch wasn't as bad.

Good news Lynsey! Love hearing those good reports!!

Jennifer, they are doing this bronch to see what is actually growing so they can treat it correctly. Reece has been so sick latley they want to make sure they are treating right. He has'nt been able to "spit" out the sputum yet either so that's another reason.

Thanks for the replies.. I will not be having a bronch just to get a baseline.. I have to many other problems to be subjected to that.. I am able to give a sputum sample so that is not an issue.. I do however think that it would be helpful if your child was sick and not able to give a sample.. or whatever you are comfortable with.. Just for me..I am not for all the tests and stuff.. last time I had an endoscopy, I ended up needing nitroglycerin and had chest pain, I aspirated stuff and ended up with pneumonia.. all to be told.. GOOD everything looks good.... I didn't even have any problems to begin with except for GERD.

I have always had a problem with anestheia. coming out of it. I have alway become really aggitated and it seemed like it took forever to wear off..

Thanks again,

Jennifer
