I am sensitive to smells as well. Not only from a breathing issues but I get migraines as well, which can be triggered by smell. I have a hard time going down the detergent, scented candle, and cleaner isle. However, I can wear perfume but not any and all kinds. I havent had a problem with Clinique Happy and another called Cool Water. Both are a little expensive, but I dont have a problem with them. Clinique Happy is the one I wear the most. I usually cant smell the Clinique Happy on myself, but other's tell me I smell good, so I know it's there. I think how you put it on has a lot to do with it too. I will spray some in the open air, hold my breathe and walk through it. I will then put a small amount on the inside of my wrist, rub together and dab my wrist behind my ears. So, it isnt as strong. One thing I hate is when someone in the store walks by you and they smell like they have soaked in a bath tub with the cheapest stuff they could find.
I can use a few scented oils/candles in the house, usually something low in scent and you can control the amount that is put out. I can use vanilla, apple cinnamon, white rose...soft scents. I cant use lavender, gardenia, hawaiian flowers, clean linen...you know, stuff like that.
I cannot walk into Bath & Body Works. I have to hold my breath just to walk past it in the mall. A few years ago, I loved going to that store and look around. Now, I can't it gives me headaches and makes me SOB.
