the cat rolled up in her legs is pure evil! hes in love with kuma though, which is very cute and sick at the same time.

pixie, its really sad that your cf team has been feeding you a whole pile of BS. causes polyps? ive had those big juicy babies growing in my nose way before i had pets. there is no evidence whatsoever that pets causes polyps, unless you are allergic to them. in that case there is a nose spray to prevent polyps forming if you opt against anti histamines. my akita sheds like crazy when its that time of year and my maine coon is a big shedder due to poor coat condition of unknown cause. we have fur tumbleweeds all over the darn house even though it gets vaccumed almost everyday. they havent had any kind of negative change in my health. in fact having a dog especially is a good thing. if i didnt have her i wouldnt have a reason to exercise. when i use to go to a childrens hospital theyd encourage parents to get dogs if the kids werent big on exercise. although because mum is not an animal lover she never gave into my requests

you can have any dog breed you like. as long as it gets washed every fortnight and gets regular brushing [or extreme brushing in a double coated breeds case] it shouldnt cause a problem.

I have 3 cats! Umm..when the doctor found out he was not pleased but there was no way i was going to give them up. There is something about the dander that is not good for you....but asking me to get rid of 3 family members is out of the question! Sorry Doc!

My friend watches my newly CF diagnosed son. She has 3 parrots, and she told me to check if everything will be OK. She loves him and wants to keep watching him. She is worried because she has multiple health problems and mentions that she had a yeast infection to her lungs due to her birds. She is also neurotically clean with those birds for the same fact. She just tries to keep my 4 year old away from them(he really hates that!).........and she is saying that our recent acquisition of a couple parakeets should be checked out, in case they are a problem.
For anyone answering.............We REALLY WANT A PARROT...........is it ok?.......We live in FL where they could actually live outside in the Lanaii

I don't know about parrots, but I had parakeets as a kid. No one cared, and it didn't cause a problem. I answered this thread over a year ago when it appeared, but I've *always* had all sorts of pets, and as long as the kids don't have allergies (which ANY kid can have, CF or not), it's not a problem. I have had as many as 6 dogs in the house at once, most of which were golden retrievers (I forgot to mention this before, but we even bred goldens in my house 3 times, and so we had huge litters of dirty little puppies in the house [largest I think was 12 puppies] and they caused no problem other than chewing furniture )... cats, guinea pigs, hamsters, parakeets, fish, mice, and my fiance and I have somewhat recently gotten a ferret who's an awesome little dude.

Pets are great for companionship and for teaching responsibility. If you want to give your kids pets, do it. Period.

We had hampsters when my son was younger and never had a problem with them. When my son was much older we finally gave in and got a husky/shepherd. This dog bought so much happiness to my son that I never regretted getting her for one minute. Shelby was my son's companion and best friend. We even used to sneak her up to the ward, nurses just loved her.

Besides owning parakeets ourselves along with cat, dog & fish....I have a few friends with parots, cockateils & have helped another friend at their pet center they own. I adore the birds & have no true problems. Like anything else with animals hygiene is very important. Wash before/after handling animals etc. Unless he plans on eating bird poop I would let him enjoy. Its such a blessing to see the excitement in their eyes...
