Hi. It has been a while since I have posted or visited the forum. It has been crazy!

On to my question:

Indoor pets and CF? What are some arguements on both sides of the equation AND specifically, cats...?

Thanks!

We had concerns when DS was diagnosed shortly after birth, because we had an elderly dog. Actually, my MIL was trying to tell us we'd have to get rid of the dog -- she's not a pet person. But we asked the doctor, who didn't have issues with it. DS doesn't have allergies, has done fine with having a dog.

That dog died when DS was 3 and we weren't considering getting a new one, except DS kept insisting we bring his puppy back from the clouds So a year or so ago we adopted a new one. I wasn't ready to deal with having to housetrain a puppy, so we went thru a rescue group, who screened us, had foster "parents" and they found the right fit for us -- a younger dog, used to being around children that was trained.

My MIL is still at work trying to rid us of his beloved pet. Her response was less than stellar when we got the new dog. And last weekend she was telling us about something on the view she'd heard about dogs and germs. Sigh!

We found a home for my Jack Russel Terrier when we found out Abby's diagnosis because of allergies.

Here's the situation...My sister rescued a 4-5 week old kitten, and we were thinking about keeping her...but hadn't completely decided inside or out OR a mix of the two (which I'd rather not do b/c of fleas and the wear on my furniture).

I'm a dog person. My husband is a cat person. I'm just really struggling because I like the kitty, but don't know if I can deal with an inside pet, the hair, etc. Doesn't matter if it is a dog or a cat.

I'm not looking for an out, I just want to make an educated decision about what to do...what's in Abby's best interest health wise. I'm sure everyone understands.

Thanks!!

We have 4 cats and 2 dogs. We had them before Ellie was born. They were around her always the first two months before her diagnosis. After her diagnosis we contemplated getting rid of them but she doesn't seem to have any allergies to them as of yet. Once we received her diagnosis the dogs pretty much became outside and the three cats we put in a separate part of the house and they aren't allowed in her room. When Ellie was 5 months old, lo an behold a kitten shows up in our garage (and it's the sweetest kitty ever). We decided to keep her, but she is strictly outside. We plan on keeping them all unless she develops allergies. We also plan on getting her a horse within the next year (granted she'll be too young to ride, but I want her used to them). We do have two 2 large air purifiers, 1 huge one, and a medium one for her bedroom too help with the dander. I also do sweep and dust more than I ever used too, but it's worth it. She loves watching them and "talking" to them. I think animals just bring so much joy and unconditional love.
