PFTs and 02

We have ours at the end of a hallway towards the stairs (cape style house) and the 50 ft hose can reach anywhere in the house. You will get use to the noise, but they are loud. We can actually sleep with it in the room now when we are on vacation or spending the night somewhere else. I am pretty sure you can also get concentrators for two, one concentrator two controls/hoses, not sure if that would help with any space/noise issues.

I am sorry to hear this, this must be tough for the kids, lets hope it stays only at night. It is a tough adjustment to make, but you get use to it and by this point I am sure you have stong kids.

The concentrators can be loud - but there is some rane. If you have 2 and they both seem loud to you then it miht just be that you're not used to them. We have a walkin closet with a window (wierd for drssin, I know, but it ended up bein helpful) so we put it in there with the window crfacked a bit. As others have said, others put them in another room with the 50 foot hose coming off of them. For example, once my husband switched to liquid O2 (which is noiseless by the way) when he needed O2 24/7 we kept it at the bottom of the stairs and ran the hose up to the master bedroom for nightnmight use (he used a portable for daytime).

The concentrators throw off a lot of heat, so in the summer you probably want them some place that is well air conditioned. And I know a few people in Florida who keep them outside or in a garage with a long hose so they don't have their electric bills go sky high for air conditionin.

Speaking of electric bills, that is an issue with the concentrators (but not with the liquid O2). I suspect you cannot et liquid O2 for nihttime use only, but if the script is not just nighttime you miht want to look into movin to liquid or compressed O2. that would be http://www.portableoxygen.org or just search on "Portable "

oh and another thing. If you decide to put the concentrator far away and then are draping the O2 tubing down the hall of something - buy lots of those little white (or brass) cuphooks. Cuphooks are just the right size to hold O2 tubing so you can drape it way up (or way to the side) so you all aren't tripping on it all of the time.

Oh and yet another thing.
If you only have the concentrators, make sure you get a big E tank for each of the boys as backup in case you loose electricity. Or buy a generator that can handle both.
(Just thinking about theat bad thunderstorm we had last night - and hurricane season approaching)

My pfts are 28%, and I started taking o2 at night a year ago. Thankfully I still do not require it during the day (yet!). I have my concentrator in my bedroom. I don't find it all that loud to be honest-but maybe thats because Im used to it. It does make the room hot though, so its good to keep the door and maybe a window open.

I was told I need o2 at night after I did the over night oximetry where I slept wearing the sats probe on my finger. I think they like the sats to be over 90 the majority of the time, because after I started on the 2L at night, the test was repeated and they were pleased with the results, saying that they were above 90%, 80% of the time.

Basically if you don't get enough o2, the carbon dioxide builds up and can lead to a number of problems varying in severity...but thats already been said, but ah well!
