PFT's on your own

I know there are spirometry (sp?) machines you can purchase, but are they really accurate? I go to my clinic every three months, but I'm really wanting to stay on top of things and check my FEV1 every month.

I also thought about going to a local clinic where they do walk in PFT's. I wonder if that would be risking catching germs since it's not really a doctor's office.

J has a Piko-1 FEV1 and PEF meter - it seems to be pretty good. You can get it on amazon or ebay.

Going to a local walk in pft office could be risky i think.

I have my own pft thingy that reads my fev1 only, but that's the thing they want to know really, i guess you'd want to know that too.

Mine is really accurate. It reads a bit different then the one in the hospital but that cause it's a different device. On it's own it reads very accurate. I have to do 3 breaths within 15 minutes and it remembers the highest one. It can remember upto 90 numbers i think. And you can attachs it to a computer to put the numbers in there.
With mine they do that at the hospital but i think if you would by a thing like this you could do it at home too.

Because it's a bit different then the one at the hospital the only thing you have to do really is do it the day you did pft's at the hospital and take that as you base line for you machine at home.

Mine is called 'Patient Monitoring and Management' (it really says that in English so i would think you could get it in the US), mine is from Jaeger and that's a German company i think.
