Pharmaceutical companies only want $$!

Pharmaceutical companies only want money! The greedy @#$%s. I read on one of the topics that a company owns the CF gene. I believe it. But even if it weren't true, which it is, there are companies, including our govenment who hold patents on genes and gene mutations. Why would any company own a gene if not to make money on it, or to prevent other from making money on it, such that a monopoly is maintained?

The most powerful and the highest funded lobbyists in Washington DC are pharmaceutical companies. And where do you think they accumulate all that hush money? Us, the over paying consumer. That premium you pay on your Zyvox or Cipro or Pulmozyme, etc. goes to making sure that these drug companies can continue to milk the consumer.

Do you really think that the current (others no different) government administration is against stem cell research because it is incongruous with God's desires or religious beliefs? Show me a politician who truly has a strong faith and conviction, and I will show you a snowball in hell. They (the politicians and the drug companies and institutions who fund them) don't want cloned lungs for us, or any other cloned organ for the infirm. They don't want stem cells to cure cancer, or heart disease, otherwise if cancer was gone, think about all the drugs that go into supporting prevention, management, and recovery of this disease and others, and think about how donations and money wells and grants would disappear. All that money just stops when a disease is cured and gone. Those greedy bast*rds can't have that. Why else do you think that South Korea and Ireland and Britian are leading the stem cell research by 3-5 years ahead of the US. And I guarentee that not only will that research spread continue, but that the US will bring pressure to bear on other nations to prevent the advancement of the technology and science, which have the potential to cure, in absolute terms, diseases such as ours.

The drug companies are making money and then some, so you and I in the mean time get to remain "Consumer #1" with our expensive disease.

I watched a show a year or so ago on this subject. I don't remember all the particulars, but a company bought the rights (or whatever you call it) for breast cancer, and so they are now the only ones who can legally do research and produce a cure for breast cancer! What a waste! That means that if Jane Smith finds the cure for cancer, she can not make it available unless she works for company x.

Yeah, but what can we do?

Unrealted... Where did you get your name? Is it from Creatures? I love that game! I only have creatures 1 and 2, though. I heard in creatures three the grendels are actually mean, but I like them being more like ettins and norns. =-)

I always said if one of these scientists or head of these pharmaceutical companies, who is "searching for a cure" for ....whether it be cf, cancer, diabetes, leukemia, ever got stricken with the disease, you'd be surprised how fast there would be a cure. Cant say if they'd share it with the public, but they'd magically find a cure in record time<img src="i/expressions/devil.gif" border="0">
