My son who is 2 does his vest for 20 minutes in the morning and 20 minutes in the afternoon. He has never been sick enough that we have had to do it more than that. He has been doing 2 treatments a day since birth.

Reece does his vest 3x day....for 30 min. When he's in the hosptial they do "love pats" instead of the vest...my doc likes those better when he's sick.

I do my boys physio three times a day, twenty minutes per session. If they are having trouble in a certain spot or if they have a cold I do an extra 10 - 20 per treatment. They also do pep after each treatment.

We too don't have the vest here in Asutralia, so we do manual cpt. Our doc's have told us to only do it once a day, so that's what we have been doing. Unless of course she is sick they said to do it 2-3 times a day.
There reason for this is because there hasn't been enough evidence/studies to say that cpt in young children is beneficial, and will prevent certain things.
Not sure why else, that's what i have been told.

We've been giving our child beatments since he was about a week old. We were told a minimum of 2 times a day -- the more the better. We do treatments 3 times a day for about 20 minutes. If he gets sick, we add another treatment.

Because we've been doing treatments since the very beginning, DS is used to it. I can't imagine trying to start CPT on a toddler who's never had it before. It must be quite a struggle.

eli..I would suggest doing cpt's more then once a day ...I know your doctor said to do it only once a day but it is a great way to break up the mucus so it doesn't get all caught up in there and a infection can't grow behind something in there also might help with mucus plugs...I have heard those hurt alot and are very uncomfortable.
when my niece was first diagnosed they told us the cpt's were very important to keep up with...definitally atleast 2 times a day.
just think they were not doing cpt's back in the day and look how long people lived back then...now it may not prevent your child from culturing something but it could affect how long they have it and how hard it is to get rid of...depending on how much mocus is built up inside of the lungs... and it might help in the long run keeping the lungs clear of all the mucus build up...I mean the biggest problem with cf is the thick mucus in there and the infections builing right?...so why not just do it..it will not take up that much time...and it will help in the long run.
Even though your doc told you once a day it won't hurt at all to do it more.

Before I got the Vest 8 years ago, my mom would do extra physio for me when I felt more gunky.

Since I only live a few miles from her now, she'll do some physio on me in between Vest treatments to spot-target any wheezing or tightness. She's the best <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">
