i had a picc line placed on saturday and got sprung from jail on saturday! oh happy day!! my home health care nurse came today to draw blood and to change my dressing. now when i had the picc placed they told me i was a bleeder, uh hello! don't tell me i'm a bleeder while your doing the procedure!! it grosses me out as is!! so they put a piece of gause to help stop the bleeding and a pressure thing to help stop the bleeding. well today they ripped my skin off (well ok maybe they didn't rip off my skin, but it sure always feels like it) and she changed the dressing and i'm sitting there trying to think about something else so i don't pass out. after she is done i take a look at the newly dressed picc and i notice it's bruised. i've never bruised from a picc before. but then again i'm not really surprised cause every time i was poked for blood i bruised there. maybe it's cause i'm pregnant and the baby is just trying to take everything from me so it kinda has thrown my viatmin levels out of whack so that i'm bruising easier. has anyone noticed a bruise after getting a picc? it was sore the first day, but it's always sore the first day i get it. but i haven't had any problems with it. i was just wondering. they did say my iron was a little low so they want me to take some iron, so maybe that could be it?

You are carrying extra blood volume due to being pregnant so that might have something to do with the bruising. I don't think your vitamin levels would have anything to do with bruising after a picc line insertion or blood draw since they are in essence making a hole in your vein. If they made the comment that you are a bleeder then you were probably bleeding a bit while they were doing it and some of the blood got trapped in your tissues. I have bruised from a picc line though it was accidentally inserted in my artery instead of my vein (can we say huge medical mistake!!) and after we removed it the next day I had a HUGE bruise on my arm that took about 3 weeks to go away. Plus my arm hurt for about a week and I had limited movement so I even had to go to a session of physical therapy to learn some stretches etc. Anyway, I got on a tangent. Oh I remember bruising after a regular picc insertion as well. I have a port now (have had it for about 6 years) so don't really remember much.

i always have a little bruising with mine right at the insertion site. it usually goes away within a few days, i wouldn't worry about it.
