Interesting story indeed. Before I moved, I was working at a cabaret for a local chanteuse (in Denver) who gets really great national touring acts to play at her club. Henry Butler is from New Orleans, he is a blind jazz piano player who did a lot of training with Dr. John. He is phenomenal. Part of my job at the club was to make sure acts were comfortable in their dressing rooms. I was bringing Mr. Butler a cup of hot tea and singing a little song when he heard me and asked me if I would sing with him onstage that night. It was a little crazy, I love to sing and am good, but had never before performed on stage infront of an audience. We literally had a completely sold out, packed house. My boss knew I dreamt of singing onstage and she encouraged me to do it. We did a short rendition of St. Jame's Infirmary and I got a standing ovation. It was *amazing* to say the least. A bunch of people came up after the show with compliments, my favorite being that I was a "homegrown biscuit"... hahah... too adorable. It was awesome, I love that my first time (definitely not last!) onstage was with a jazz legend.
