Hi everyone,

I guess I'll move onto a more serious topic Katy and I will be looking into relocating to Pittsburgh in January if I do not get called in for transplant in Boston this December.

We are working through all the nightmare insurance issues to see what needs to be done to get me there. Things are looking okay, but there may be a few snags to work through.

My question is... has anyone been treated in Pittsburgh? Any personal experiences to share? Also, how is the area out there? Katy will be looking for work out there, I don't want to worry about her working in a shady area. Anyone living out there now?

It is about time you got serious.....(JUST KIDDING)

My current CF doctor used to run the CF clinic in Pittsburgh.. My CF nurse is still from that area ( I think) I am going to email her and ask her.... I know a few people on here go to clinic there so hopefully they will post..

Diane, goes there as far as I know... I could be wrong though...

I will post back any information I get from my CF nurse...

Good Luck with everything...

the UPitt transplant center ranks in the top ten for transplant centers around the country and if I remember correctly preform more transplants annually than any other transplant center. "It ranks among the top 10 universities nationally in terms of annual research support awarded by the National Institutes of Health." "According to new data from the United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS), UPMC is the largest lung transplant center in the United States, with survival rates well above the national average" http://lungtransplantprogram.upmc.com/Outcomes.htm blah blah blah

I know somebody who is 10 years post transplant who's gotten his care at UPitt.
Other than that I don't know much about pittsburgh...

i don't really remember much about pittsburgh as its been many years since i've been to see a doctor there... when i was very young it was the closest cf center so i went there until i was like 3 or 4 years old or something... i live in west virginia and my doctor is in morgantown now, but as far as i know they have a pretty good cf center there... sorry i can't offer more information about pittsburgh but as for the cf center at west virginia university, they are making good progress in cf treatement...

however, i was just in the city last week for a college football game between the west virginia mountaineers and the pittsburgh panthers... the city seems nice enough, tho the uneven terraine makes its layout a bit odd i guess (especially the roads)...

good luck with everything and i hope it works out for the best...
