One thing to consider is that any weight you gain after the surgery will "collect" in other areas because that fat storage area is gone. Your body will still have the same tendency to gain weight...just in a different area...your butt may get bigger...your arms may get bigger....

Pardon my bluntness, but this surgery would be a waste of money.

At 5'4 and 144 lbs you could very easily lose 15-20 lbs within a few months and still be at a healthy weight. The best and only way to do it is through diet and exercise. Eat healthy food, control your portions, do cardio work, and lift weights. If you stay disciplined it will work, I promise. And no, lifting weights will not make you look bulky. That's nearly impossible for a woman. You will be toned, lighter, and you will feel better.

I talk to people about this all the time. If you eat less, your body must lose weight. You cannot violate the laws of physics. You are far better off with diet and exercise, trust me.

Thanks for the input everyone. I do exercise, and I don't have fat anywhere but my stomach. I thinks that's why people assume that I'm pregnant. When I was in school I weighed around 120 lbs and that's when people would tell me I needed to do sit-ups, which I did. I have very tight abs, they're just covered up by fat. I really don't know if I would actually do the surgery. I just wanted to see what others thought.

I know you are probably venting, and not real serious about a surgery. But, seriously, you are 21 and not that overweight. I would have to see a picture to be sure, but you probably look much better than you think. I am 5'2" and weight about the same as you, and I am a little self conscious about my weight, but I really don't look that bad. Please don't let the media dictate what you should look like, because it has been my experience that we may not be super healthy, but most of us CFers are rock stars in our looks! <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif" border="0">
