I am a 35 year old, stay at home Mom with CF. I have also wanted breast implants. My husband thinks I am nuts. I would only consider it if I had the $$$ to spend & time to clean my lungs out. From my understanding there are a few factors to consider for us. First is the Anesthesia. It isnt great for the lungs & is usually avoided if possible to administer it to CF patients. If it has to be done, the doctors (at least mine) want a chance to give the patient a good clean out to assure top effeciency of lung function. Second problem is doing treatments afetr the implants. I am not sure what the time frame for healing is, but whatever it is it definitely would inhibit out ability to do treatments especially if using the vest. I havent even gotten into the controversy of the safety of implants. I completely understand what you are thinking. My older sister has the same size bustline & shaped/sized body, but because my ribcage is larger & more barrell shaped you cant tell we are the same size in the chest area. I truly believe bigger boobs would offset that & give me more self esteem. When I was pregnant & my breasts were full of milk, I was in heaven. They increased in size just enough to make a difference. I would never want to be like some of these girls who actually looked deformed because they went so big, but a little help would be nice. I am not infactuated with the idea everyday, but its on my mind.<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif" border="0">

I'm 26 WCF and got breast implants Dec 19, 2002. They are AWESOME!! I've wanted them since I was 16. I emailed many Dr.'s asking if it would be a problem, none thought it would be. The only concern was going under. I went under at 3pm and was on my way home by 6pm. I think we're the best candidates because we are so used to chest pain and tightness. I was up and around by day three. It was a strange feeling, being sick without being sick sick. The worst part was having to cough the first few days but it's nothing you couldn't handle. It's now been just over three months and I've had no problems. I went with the gel silicones because I have no body fat. I didn't even fit an A cup now I'm a full B small C. They look real, if you didn't know you wouldn't be able to tell.Feel free to email me and ask any questions. I also have pics.

I also have wide rib cage and now it totally makes my body look like an "hour glass" figure. As for treatment, it actually helps the breast implants as well. The risks of implants are no longer something to worry about. http://www.canadaba.ca The healing time is about a week and three months to be completely back to normal. Like I said earlier, I was able to do my regular things by day 5 and by a month no bruising nor scars were left. It has boost my self esteem tremendously and I would definitely recommend it to anyone. The way I see it is that people are constantly on diets to get the body they want, where as I can not gain weight for the life of me. As for going under, I was seen by the anesthesiologist and my surgeon prior to surgery to discuss all matters. They also contacted my CF team at the clinic. It would be to much for anyone to risk if I was a high risk, they all felt confident there was no problems. Think...when we have surgery done do to illness we our most likely sick, for my implants they made sure I was at my best so I was able to handle it no prob. It all happened quickly for me. I went to a women's show Nov.02 and saw a booth on implants. I set up a consultation and on the fist visit I booked the surgery. By Dec 19 I was at the clinic having the sugery done. It is expensive but I have no car nor loans or any debt, so I thought...now was the time to do it. I don't regret it for a second. Total cost including Tax was $6,420 CD funds. I went with the gel which were the most expensive but it gives the natural look and are good for life.

I'm 19 with cf as well and I was very small chested until I was almost 17, and I thought that that would be the chest that I would have for life. Everyone in my family is small chested as well. I started taking the pill when I was 16 1/2, and then things started changing. In the last couple of years I've went from not even an A to a D. It's rediculous. I definately do like my chest more. I feel more feminine, but running up and down the stairs isn't the same.<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">I know that going up four sizes isn't common when taking the pill, but going up one or two sizes isn't unheard of. Have you tried the pill? It's just some suggestions. I thought about getting implants in the past so I understand where your coming from. Surgery just scares me.Also, I've heard men say that it's not the size that matters. I mean, for some guys it totally does, but most will be happy if they are just nicely shaped A's. Whatever you decide, I wish you the best of luck.

Be careful!! Breat implants still have a risk and you should never ever depend on one web site to trust on safety! Although horror stories are rare they are not unheard of. Just make sure you are willing to take on any complications that may arise. Also, I am a firm believer that if you have low self confidence changing one thing on the outside will not change the inside and therefor it may be a quick fix, but please learn to love yourself the way you are before changing your body. Sorry, i know I am kinda strong on my opinion, but I feel that some (NOT ALL) people feel that changing something in their appearance whether a diet or breast implants will fix all their problems with how they feel about themselves and that is sooo not true. Talk to your CF doctor and see how he/she feels. Do lots and lots of research too just to make sure you are 100% okay with your decision.

Well, I personally have been taking Loestrin, but other pills such as orthotricyclin have been known to have the same effects. A friend of mine went from being a c to a d on ortho. Pills can make you gain weight everywhere. I gained ten pounds when I started taking the pill, but it all seemed to go to feminine place; chest and butt. But I may have been just a late bloomer. I think my maturing was a combination of being a late bloomer and taking the pill.

"the pill" is what women take to keep from getting pregnant. I think that subjecting yourself to all the risks of any elective operation requires scrutiny. No surgery is without risk, implants are certainly not risk free and what is the real motivation for getting them? Take what I have to say with a grain of salt because I'm not a female. However, I do know that looks wear out with age and eventually you'll need to have them removed (haven't seen too many senior citizens with implants, know what I'm sayin?), presuming you live long enough for gravity to take hold. I also wonder how they might hinder the process of lung transplantation...Who doesn't want to look good? I think it might be easier to learn to love yourself for who you are now, rather than later. Hell, once I learned to love myself with CF, not much else seems that terribly important-certainly not vanity. Like I said, take my opinion with a grain of salt, as everyone's entitled to theirs. I certainly don't pretend to know what goes on in the mind of someone considering this type of operation. Good luck with whatever you decide to do, and God Bless!!P.S. I'm not a boob man (did I mention that?). A women's attitude (regardless of physical appearance) is what does it for me <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif" border="0">

Sure there are risks...but EVERYTHING these days have risks. I'm a very secure women inside and NOW out!! I feel more of "womanly" with them. I think you should talk to your CF Dr. as well as your Plastic surgeon. They'll answer all your questions, and they'll be someone you trust. I found by reading about it and asking people, confused the hell out of me...every seems to have their "own" facts. Trust yourself and do what's best for you. I felt comfortable during my first consultation, and booked the surgery. I feel great and would recommend it to anyone. People who get breast reductions have far more complications then people who get implants. Everything happens for a reason, hey you could be born with CF!! Live life to the fullest and do whatever makes you happy. I'll be happy to email you so we can chat more!!

hi. I am a 31 Woman with CF. I too, have felt "abnormal" because of my "barrel chest" that seemed to make my boobs look small. I played with the idea of implants, until 2 things happened. 1. I met my husband who loves me just the way I am<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0"> and 2. my Mom went through Breast Cancer and I saw breasts for what they truly were. Vessels to feed and nuture our children. Anything more is a fantasy encouraged by Playboy and the like. Each person has the right to do what they want, and I would never judge anyone, but remember health (both physical and mental) is the thing that counts in the end. And CF is enough to worry about, why invite more medical intervention if not needed!PS try these water bra inserts. My Mom got them because of her mastecomy, but I wound up using them to help me fill out certain outfits. They look great and no one knows the difference! <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif" border="0">

Princess, You've had your new boobs, what four months? Make sure you post back when you have to have them removed or replaced- because eventually you will have to address this issue again. "...but EVERYTHING these days has risk..." you say, but why not add more risk by having non essential, invasive surgery to satisfy your vanity? What better way to argure for an unnecessary operation than "why not? You take risks everyday you venture into the world..." There is so much more to life, why would you cheat yourself? Why do we focus so much on what we don't have, than what we do have? (pardon the pun)...

I am a 29 yr old with CF. I also am very small in that area...and always felt like I didnt look good enough. Until my mom got breast cancer...I seen another post kind of like mine. My mom was 29 when she was first diagnosed with breast cancer and had to have her first mastectomy. 14 yrs later it returned and she had to have another mastectomy. Now, I dont let it bother me that I dont have much on top...I realize it is not important. I am thankful just to be alive! Good luck and take care!

I too have a very small chest, but I LOVE them. My friend is a size small D (all natural no implants). She can't wear little tank tops or low neck lines cause they make her look like a whore. She says she wishes she were smaller so more guys would look at her, not her chest. Se said she feels like the "wrong" kind of men are attracted to her because they like her chest 1st and foremost. I am not saying big boobs are bad, but it seems that nobody is happy with the way they are! Having CF has taught me to love life and my body for how hard it works everyday, not by how it looks. I agree with the male response. If you have a transplant someday...won't they get in the way or need to be removed? Also will vest be the same? The decision is of course yours, but make sure you weigh all the pros and cons and make a very very educated decision. That means looking at web site on success stories and about people who have had problems with their implants. Good luck

Anonymous,<blockquote>Quote<br><hr> "Make sure you post back when you have to have them removed or replaced- because eventually you will have to address this issue again."<hr></blockquote>Wow I didn't realize you were a PS. (plastic Surgeon) I DID my homework, consulted with both clinics and chose the implants that will NOT have to be replaced. I have two girl friends who've had their's for almost 5 yrs and still no probs. And for the "playboy" remark....let me guess, you don't even come close to looking like them?? I do not look like a stripper or any porn star, nor did I want too. I got them formed to my body size and shape. If you didn't know I had it done you wouldn't be able to tell. They look 100% natural.I have been through A LOT living with Cf...losing my identical twin sister to CF, many surgery's, numerous hospital stays, etc. I don't just sit back to think of many ways to "worsen" or "jeopardize" my health. I have faced allot of probs and have over come them all so far, with positive results. If...."IF" there is any complications, I will deal with them when and IF they happen. I put allot of thought and research into my decision. I'm totally happy and found it was a positive decision for ME.I simply posted my post to let her (the girl wondering about implants and CF) know that I have CF and implants. NOT to be criticized by you. This is a friendly site where people with Cf can come and talk. NOT TO JUDGE!

I believe that all women should be required by law to have breast implants. I believe that breast implants were a gift from God. God bless you and women like you who choose to make my day a little bit brighter. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif" border="0"><img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-cool.gif" border="0">

princess, Alot of ideas can be exchanged during a healthy debate on any given topic. It's unfortunate that you find in necessary to rope a bunch red herrings into an otherwise decent debate. I'm sorry about your sister and understand what it's like to cope with CF ie the surgeries, hospitalizations meds etc etc. I think anyone who has CF can relate to that. But c'mon, go back and reread some of your arguments for breast augmentation (bear with me as I'm paraphrasing):"...having CF makes us better candidates for breast implants since we are used to having chest pain..."Do you really believe that?"...those having breast reduction have far more complications..." As far as I can tell, those who have this done have much more credible reasons for doing it."ask your plastic surgeon about it... they'll be someone you can trust..."If he talked you out of it, how would he take your money? "...everything has risks..." Why in the world would you want to (as my mom used to say) borrow trouble?I think the fact that you have multiple friends who've had it done speaks volumes about your own motivation for getting them. By the way, I wasn't necessarily speaking of complications with regard to needing additional surgery in the future. Eventually you'll grow weary of having these foreign objects in your body, and they don't remove themselves-that is of course if you don't have a ruptured or leaky implant removed/replaced before then. I'm sorry that a descenting opinion of this subject finds you so defensive about it. For anyone who may be interested, check out this link: http://www.breast-implants.org/ Though the risks may be statistically marginal, it doesn't hurt to be as informed as possible. After all, how (un)lucky do you think you are? CF occurs in 1 of every 2000 live births, so the odds are already stacked against us.
