Hi everyone. I wanted to ask you opinion (sorry, I am sure you get this a lot but I figured I should ask people who have experience in dealing with it.) Here is the background...my son just turned 14 months. He was just diagnosed a couple days ago with pneumonia...his 4th time having one!!! Anytime he picks up a cold (in the winter OR summer) it turns to pneumonia. One time it had the RSV component. He also has had a hard time eating solids. Ever since I started feeding him he sounds really congested (he will be totally fine prior to feeding him and then once he starts to eat he sounds like he has a full blown cold.)This happend with EVERYTHING solid...it doesnt't happen with drinking formula/milk. My friend suggested getting him tested for CF (they don't do that in the NB screen in Maine.) He is tall for his age and was in the 75th for weight at his 10 month check up (although I noticed when we went in for this pneumonia he hasn't gained any weight in the last 6 months.) So I just want to know if any of you have experienced this with your own children. I am afraid to go in and ask for this sweat test (especially since we have moved and this is a new dr) and have her think I am crazy. Thank you for any help. (Oh he also had a upper GI done to make sure all his tubing was correct - b/c of the congestion when feeding and he was totally fine.)

I don't think you are crazy, but I also don't think this is necessarily CF. It would really help to get a sweat test and since it is so non-invasive, its a cinch to have done.

Something is up with a 1 year old who has had pneumonia 4 times. Period. I'd suggest getting a referral to a good pulmonologist, preferably one that works in an accreddited CF center (go to cff.org and look for care networks to find one).

You might also consider getting him allergy tested as well as having a swallow study done.

Always remember that no one will advocate for your child better than you!! Even if it seems that you should just quietly go along with the doctors decisions, you need to push and go with your gut. There are lots of parents here that are the reason their children were diagnosed, because they didn't give up when they knew something was up.

Best of luck!!!
