Please, I need advice

On another thread I wrote about my 7 years old daughter (DDF508) having severe allergies and not being able to breath trough her nose at all. Nights are disturbing seeing her trying to breath while she sleeps, sometimes she stops breathing for several seconds (seems like minutes to me). We tried Claritin, Zyrtec but they didn't do anything for her. We took her to an ENT and he said that she had fluid on her ear and a lot of mucus on her sinuses. Well, my problem is that he doesn't want to prescribe any allergy medicine saying that they are bad for CF patients. He gave her antibiotic for the infection because he thinks she has an infection and I guess for the ear. We mentioned that she does nasal rinses when her nose is not congested which was a long time ago. She hasn't done it in a long time. I am going to give her the antibiotic, but I need something for her allergies and we read somewhere else that singular could help. Does anyone have experience with Singular? ENT said nasal rinses are terrible and bad for CF and she needs to stop doing it. Well, I thought rinses were good. Please some advice.

The world is full of Doctors who can't even spell CF, much less treat a patient with it. All of these issues should be discussed with her CF Specialist. Sleep apneas are common with CF and should also be discussed with the CF Team.

And yes, for the past 20 years, with the knowledge of my CF Team, I have been taking allergy meds.

I agree with Bill. I've been taking over the counter allergy medicine with the consent of my CF team for as long as I can remember.

My oldest is on Singular, Zyrtec, Flonase nose spray and he does sinus rinse. I have never heard that about allergy meds or the sinus rinse. I would check with your CF center and see what they suggest.

My son is on Singular and Flonase. We were told not to use Claratin or anthing that is an antihistimine because it dries out the mucus. We were told if really needed, he can do a day or two but no more. Maybe your CF doc could work with the allergy department. Justin has more food than environmental but we always touch base with all doctors involved.

Odd that a ENT would say that. Singular, allergy meds (Claratin) and nasal rinses are common med/treatments for CF patients(who have sinus issues) and have been for years. I would ask him specifically why he says that and do some research on your own and then have a discussion with your CF team.
