Here's what they're looking for and what they indicate:
Floats = not absorbing fats
Greasy = REALLY not absorbing fats, possibly not taking enough or the right kind of enzymes
Difficult to pass = too many enzymes, not enough fiber, dehydration
More stools passed in a day than usual = possible infection
Light, pale color = possibly liver issues/ gall bladder problems
Basically you need to have a good grip on what's normal for you, and let them know if things are different. They NEED to know what's going on in the pooper dept. As embarrassing as it is, if you don't let them know what's up, you may find yourself with a bigger problem on your hands. My recent bowel obstruction and hospitalization was a good example of that for me. I'd been a lot looser than normal and queasy. I just assumed it was a stomach flu that was going around. It turns out that I got all blocked up because I had a sinus infection and was ingesting a lot of that mucus as it slid down the back of my throat. I'm fine now, but it was a situation that could have been avoided if I had been paying better attention. I learned that it's FAR less embarrassing to talk about my poo with a doctor than to have a hospital nurse shove an enema up my rear. (Sorry to be graphic, just trying to make a point)
I hope things normalize for you soon!
