My daughter has developed an awful cough and super high fever the last few days. Our pediatrician saw us yesterday and said if it wasn't gone by Saturday we had to go to the hospital for an x-ray, as he expects to find pneumonia.

I have no experience with pneumonia and just wondered if any of you have. How was it treated, and did it affect your cfer? I am worried about Becca, but also very concerned about Andrew getting this. Have any of your cf children had pneumonia that has been easily treated at home?

In my experience, antibiotics are usually used to treat pneumonia and it depends on how severe the case is to whether or not there is hospitalization involved. As far as transferability to a person/child with CF, I have no clue. I'm sorry I can't share more.

Em

PS: I hope that Becca gets to feeling better soon and I'll be sending good thoughts your way for a no pneumonia! <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

Ugh, Tonya. I hope Becca doesn't have pneumonia. And I hope she's feeling better soon. Last year my sitters daughter had pneumonia, and was around my CFer. I called the clinic and they assured me that it was unlikely to spread pneumonia, but to keep an eye on it. She never got it. I hope the same is the case for Andrew.

I had similar concerns with my niece who had pneumonia and was in close contact with DS last year. I contacted his CF doctor who indicated he probably would be fine -- went into detail about the type of pneumonia it most likely was. DS never got it either. Though I worried for a couple of weeks.
