Pneumonia vaccine

Question for you guys: I've been hounding my nurse for a Pneumonia vaccine for the last couple of months, and now that the flu shots are in, she has informed me that they do have a supply of the Pneumo vaccine as well. The thing is, is that she keeps telling me that I only need it once in my lifetime, whereas I've been informed from other doctors, nurses and pharmacists that you're suppose to get it every 5-7 years, and my last one was 7 years ago, and 7 years ago before that, and so on.

So what I'm wondering, is does anyone know how often you should get it? Or how often you've BEEN getting it?

contact the maker of the PNEUMOVAX if you want to get the exact frequency. I think merck makes it. The company will be happy to tell you how often it should be given

it looks like certain types of people only should be re-vaccinated, depending upon what type of vaccine you originally received and your disease state.

your nurse may have been told by the clinic or the government to limit re-vaccinations since the government pays for it... you always have to follow the money with these things, it's sad to say. the same goes for the States...

this is a nice write-up from the US Centers for Disease Control

my final thought is maybe email the US CFF to find out what their recommendations are on how often the vaccine should be given

I think that is so stupid (not you, just the logic in it). Don't you think they would benefit more by giving out the vaccines for people at risk...then taking a chance and having them get pneumonia? What is the cost of a vaccine? And what is the cost of a two week + stay at a hospital, ya know?

Who makes these dumb laws anyways?
