So, my 10 year old with CF has not pooped in a few days(I think). She has had a cold; which is not what I am worried about at this point. Yesterday, she woke up and said her stomach was upset and she was tired. She asked to stay home from school(unusual, she loves school)...Anyhow, she said she felt tired and nauseous. I thought perhaps she was getting a stomach virus.

I decided to give her a little Miralax(1/2 dose) just to be safe and some prune juice. Wasn't til 5pm last night she told me she hadn't pooped in 2 days....Arg. so now I am like what? She is farting. no fever. So I gave her more prune juice and miralax...Nothing.

This morning, I kept her home. She feels better, no nausea, no pain, no belly distention but still no poop. Called her CF doc...Doing a Miralax cleanout..Ordered to do 1 cap Miralax every 2 hours times3-4 doses..If not poop in 6 hours repeat...If no poop by am bring her in.

Feeling anxious. waiting for poop.

I hear you. With their history of stomach issues, it does get worrisome. Ds' last obstruction was 4 years ago and I still panic. Ds got a stomach bug before school started and vomited a couple times, had a distended belly and greasy, unformed poo for 3 weeks afterwards. I suspect that when he does get a stomach bug it throws off his digestive system, so we do milk of mag, and he pretty much lives off sprite for a few days cuz he's not hungry. IMO, keep doing what you're doing unless she suddenly complains of stomach pain and vomits --- especially if it's food she may have eaten hours
prior.

Ugh. One would think, but never seems to happen when we want it to. Have you tried having her walk around? Laps around the backyard or kitchen? Hopefully things'll get moving soon.

When we feek sick, it is easy to neglect fluids, including electrolytes. Mirilax may have retained enough water to make the difference. Chasing yourself around the block is a great call, our upright digestive tracts, like our backs, benefit from walking.

An old remedy showed up in the pantry that helps get things going, ginger snaps. Just a couple weeks ago I curled up with milk and some razamataz organic ginger snaps. My overindulgence in some strong ginger snaps paid off in a quick, easy poop the next day and nearly everyday since. I am having 6 Whole Foods brand ginger snaps after supper. I had a dozen a day for the first few days and paid dearly for it so it might be prudent to start with one or two. As for prunes, the same iron that upsets the tummies of many women is delivered more mildly in prunes. It is a stimulant laxative and natural or not, should be moderated.

Hope she stays well, tummy pain is non trivial,

I used to care for 2 little girls with CF - in addition to lots of liquid & walks, miralax etc : we also used Sunsweet whole prunes in liquid/ syrup - worked much better than juice - ( remove the pit!) which I cut into smaller pieces - 5 or 6 do it for adults, 2 or 3 or 4 for a child depending on age and how long it had been; and also add a spoon of mineral oil in the milk with the miralax - taste-wise she won't know it's there or in juice if she prefers.; and a glycerine suppository often worked... When desperate, we did it all!
