DS was switched to Creon 12s from Pancrease MT10s late last summer, just days before school started because Pancreaze isn't covered by our insurance plan. DS was started on 1-2 creon for snack & 4-5 for meals.

Prior to the switch, we were already thinking DS probably needed to up his dosage of Pancrease because at times there was an oily sheen on the water in the toilet, but for the most part his stools sank, were well formed.

The first few days on Creon, stools were dark brown and well formed and sank; however, he started school and we noticed the stools were lighter -- yellowish, weren't well formed -- what I'd call fuzzy, similar to his pre-bowel obstruction stools but no dark green flecks -- and sometimes leave that tell-tale ring around the water line.

He has a snack/milk break at school and a couple hours later he gets a 20 minute hot lunch break. He gets his enzymes there, he gets them right away before eating. If anything, I'm more concerned with his dawdling and not eating enough.

Daycare late afternoon, he gets a snack as well. And they're also very good about his enzymes. When he gets home, he usually has a snack of peanuts and/or sunflower seeds and due to the fat content, I give him 4 creons, almost as much as I'd give him for a meal. Sometimes on the weekends, he snacks almost constantly, so after 20-30 minutes, I'll give him a couple more enzymes.

So these past few weeks, I've been paying alot more attention to input and output. We've bumped up his enzymes for snacks and meals and it hasn't seemed to have improved his stools. Also, this summer, prior to the switch, he was gradually gaining weight. This all changed once we switched enzymes and he started school. He's busier, so he could be burning off more calories. He does tend to dawdle at suppertime, but we split up his enzymes -- half at the beginning and the rest halfway thru. He may also be getting taller, but I'm just concerned it's the enzymes.

He's got a clinic appointment later this month, so we will be mentioning this to his doctor. And we'll see how he's tracking in terms of height and weight.

He doesn't have any stomach upset or pain. The only symptoms are looser, fuzzier and lighter stools and a standstill in terms of weight gain.

Emily is on the Creon12's. She gets 2-3 for snacks, depending on fat content (her snacks tend to be mini-meals but she doesn't graze continually anymore like she used to) and 4 for most meals. I know Max is younger but he may outweigh her; she now weighs 58lbs- a huge gain in just a few months- and at her clinic they dose enzymes based both on weight as well as gain and stools.

I know what you mean by the stools mostly sinking but a little bit coming off as a sheen/sticking to the sides. We started seeing some of this in the last several months too and making some small adjustments to enzymes helped (she was only getting 3 with most meals, 2 with some snacks, increasing for tube feeds- she gets a lot them to account for the high fat content) helped and the water looks more 'clear' now when she poops.

I'm glad the change in enzymes hasn't resulted in any stomach upset or pain. I do think that going back to school can make a difference when it comes to gain, if kids don't have time to finish snack and lunch, but if you've noticed a trend starting with the switch then I'd be more inclined to think it's an enzyme thing. He was doing so well with the Pancrease; if he has dropped off on the growth charts at his next clinic appt I would see if the dr can use this to write a letter appealing insurance to cover Pancreaze for Max as an exception.

I hope you get this figured out soon and get things moving in the right direction soon!

When Ultrase became unavailable, we switched to Creon & were met with horrible results. Even at the maximum dosage, Max had tummy aches everyday & his multiple bm's per day were loaded with grease & never looked close to normal. After switching to Zenpep, no more tummy aches & bm's look normal most of the time. He seems to be gaining better now than he did with Ultrase. I have heard so many swear by Creon, but I think that it is so true that no case of CF is exactly alike. Hopefully with all of your knowledge & the assistance of your clinic, you guys can go back to the drawing board & find something that works. Good luck. I know that I ALWAYS stress out when Max isn't gaining weight (or worse yet, is losing it).

My guys switched from pancrease to creon over the summer. DS is 4 and takes creon 12 - 3 at meals and one at snack time. He has had no problems.

DD is 6 and takes creon 12 as well - 6 with meals and 4 with snacks, and is not doing well since switching. She only weighs 40 pounds, so she should no need more, but she is losing again.
