Thank you Amber, Sharon and ctalbott. (ctalbott~ your kids are beautiful! ) Thanks for sharing your experience re. the cyst. It does seem very reasonable to consider that as a possibility... and whatever it is, I'd like to know, since it hasn't always been there!

Sharon, I'm glad that Jack's dr. wasn't too concerned when it happened to him. One of the things that most concerned me was not having any idea if it had happened before; I don't watch her poop anymore given her age and I just happened to see it happen given the circumstances. I should be watching her every time she goes until she sees her dr- how to explain that in a way that won't completely offend all sense of modesty OR have her all worried (which can set up new problems) is something I am not sure how to handle. (She's used to me checking poop after she goes, generally hates that despite all explanations from the cf dr for why I need to do it, and tries to sneak off into the bathroom to go without me knowing it- the smell usually alerts me to the fact she's in there, lol.)

Amber, I'm glad it hasn't happened again to your baby.

Are you talking about a rectal prolapse? Similar thing happened a couple times when when ds was a baby and we switched to whole milk and he had constipation issues.

Liza~ I'm not really sure. I did a search here for rectal prolapse and from how everyone describes it, that seems so much more dramatic than what I saw (since what I saw wasn't 'sticking out') but I didn't think that seeing so much of her 'insides' was normal, either- especially since she wasn't constipated/passing a bm that is unusually large for her.

I am hoping that whatever this is (i.e. if it's a small prolapse and/or if it's been a recurring thing without me knowing it), it will not put her at greater risk for a bigger problem later; so I had been wondering if this was something that anyone else had experienced.

Hello Hariett,

I wanted to tell you Emily's picture is precious...

Regarding the bottom problem,, I wish I could be of more help...When you talk about the fold area,, that possibly could be a hemorrhoid issue...Now Makailyn has no problem with me looking or letting me know if she notices something different...I think it's because of all the pooping problems she has had since she was born (although it took 21/2 yrs to diagnois her)...

She has had tare's,,, and what you are describing when you talk about the 'fold'. It's always been the GI that has examine that area..The CF people have never looked at her bottom,,,but they work as a team with each other. I don't know if that is the way your clinic is set up..

Even though they may poop alot,, Makailyn has major problems with contipation ,,and blockage's,,,,and has to take alot of medicine called Merilax everyday..It was a miricle medicine...It was great for all the CFer's when it came out... Even though Emily might be on enzymes she may need Merilax also,, which I'm sure the CF doctor would be able to RX it if they think she needs it ,or they will have the GI doc FU with her...

I know at this age it's hard for them to have a doctor look at some areas...I've always told Makailyn ,it is okay for me to look ,,, and very important,,, it's okay for the doctor to look as long as I am in the room with her.....
A great doctor told me that years ago...Which is a good idea for all kiddoes,,,, and it makes her feel more comfortable.....

I'll say some prayers for your little one...And good luck on your appt next week...

Makailyn has hers also next thurs.... We are having some problems though,,,last week she had a bike crash,, and knocked out 3 teeth, head injury, and her little face,,,, well ,,, you can't see much of her face due to 'road rash'....She's been in so much pain...It's been horrible trying to get a treatment done ,,she can't eat much,, or even drink without being in so much pain...I don't know how in the world she's going to be able to do her lung functions (which need to be done really bad)....And she's so little , that they always mention a feeding tube,,,which so far we have been able to avoid...But ,, they will say if she goes down one more pound she'll need it... I'm scared about what her weight might be right now since she hasn't been eating very much....

Keep us in touch on Emily,,,,and God Bless you and your family...

PS picture below is Makailyn's helper Rocky,,, he is taking her socks off...
