Port Question

My local doctor wants to do an MRI of my neck/shoulder area to try
to figure out some arm pain I've been having for a while now.
I have a port.  I called the surgeon who put it in, he
said there was titanium in it and to talk to a radiologist to see
if I could still have the MRI.  The head radiologist at my
local doctor's said that it would be fine.  He also said that
he has only heard of one incident of any type of central line/port
having complications associated with the MRI.  <break>
So, my question is, do any of you have any experience with this?
Are we allowed to have MRIs if we have ports?  I guess
I'm just looking for a bit of assurance that this is okay and won't
hurt my port.  Even though my docs and the radiologist say its
all right...I still worry something could happen to my port.

I didn't know MRI's caused problems! What happens to the port? I don't know if I've had a MRI since then or not!!! I think I have! but my port is fine! I used it last month.

I don't know if there is a problem with ports and mris (hence the
question <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0"> ).  I am worried for two reasons mainly.  If
there is magnetic metal in it...it may cause problems since
mri uses magnetic resonance imaging.  And the second reason is
because I just tend to worry about things.  I don't mean to
cause you worry HairGirl, I just want to know if others have had
MRIs while they had ports.

I haven't heard of any such thing, but then again I haven't had one since my port.

Hopefully someone else can help you.

I had a MRI when I had my first port. My port was located on my lower left side and I did a MRI of my head and shoulders due to pain (found out I had migraine headaches). I went pretty far in the machine, but my port was not effected. I think things like ports are now made of stuff that would not interfer with medical testing.
