I'm going to be getting my 3rd port placed next week b/c my 2nd one stopped working recently (and man oh man did I hate that PICC line I had to use!). Where is your port located? Do you flush it yourself every month?

Both of mine have been in the same spot, right above my left breast, but my doctor said they will probably put it in a new spot this time to make it last longer (1st lasted ~8 years, 2nd only about 4).

Also, for anyone that's had one inserted recently, do you remember how long you were REALLY sore? I have a 7 month old and I'm trying to figure out how long I'm going to need help with her- I'm a stay at home mom.

Thank you!!!

Hi Jenny,

Im Jen as well haha

The pain for my port didnt last as long as my first one. I got my second one placed last april. April 1st I will never forget it lol...for my first port I got it placed underneath my left breast and it hurt for 2 weeks and took that long to heal. The second one I have is on my upper chest on my right side and it took like 4 days to heal n for the pain to go away.

Im sure you have heard this before but you look so young!!! I do too haha I think it will always be that way forever <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

I had a port placed in Nov. It was hardly an pain for me. They used a new one called a vortex. I get mine flushed once per month at the effusion center. I do that because i dont always have access, they take the needle out because i dont use it right now. Oh and mine was above the left breast also.
