hello,
i am 25 and had a port for 13yrs and i was only protective when
i wrestled with friends. how the port is put in is that it is put
to a fat part in you side or chest other then that there is nothing to it
the only reason that docs. ask and talk to us abot this is that our
vains are to easy to blow and mke are vains knotted up.
so that what thatis all about.

My 4 PICC lines have been done differently due to a change in policy at the hospital I go to. My first two were done in my hospital room by the IV team using the numbing cream. They would insert it & then take me to xray to be sure it is in the right spot. During the first attempt they hit a curve in my vein that they couldnt get passed. That hurt really bad because when they hit the inside wall of the vein, the pain just shot up my arm. Luckily when they tried the other arm it was fine. I also had an attempt done at home by the Home Health Nurses which was a disaster. Two attepts with no numbing cream or novacaine Spelling?) & hit the same wall of the curved vein & then screwed up the second attempt by blowing the vein. I was PISSED. The reason no numbing was done was because there was no order from the doctor for anything. To me I thought the health agency should have asked knowing how painful it can be. The doctor was not aware that a seperate order for that which goes under the prescription part of my health insurance was needed. The last 2 times have been in the hospital radiology department using novacaine (Spelling?) to numb & using the sonogram to find a good spot & insert the line. These are the first time stiches were used to hold it secure. For me the stiches pulling was the worst part.

I thought a broviac was like a G tube?... It says on this site that it's similar to a PICC... Try this site:

Hi Emily, But a broviac definitely is not the same thing as a port, right? Thanks,

I guess not? I don't know much about Broviacs. Haha. That's why I posted the link when I found it. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif" border="0">

Hi my name is Desiree Thomas and I have been looking for a port placement that is discrete, i read about yours being under the armpit, and i would love to know where i can have this done. My last one believe it or not was under my left breast. I had that for six years with no problem. Sadly it became infected and had to be removed, so now im in search of something new.The man who placed this port is no longer in practice. I am 25 and still care a great deal about my looks, so I would be very thankful if you can help me out with whatever info you may have. I hope to hear from you soon.

i've had a PICC line a few times with no real problems except some annoying bleeding... recently i have been entertaining the idea of getting a portacath but have a few questions... i like to stay active and lift weights... is there any restrictions on weightlifting or other strenuous activities of the sort.?? with the PICC i can't lift anything heavy so with lifting for me its kinda like taking one step forward and 2 steps back because when i finish the IV's and start lifting again its like i have ot start over because of not doing any lifting for 2 weeks or more... just wandering if anyone was advised by a doc about restrictions (if any)...

any answers would be appreciated... thanks

Ports generally aren't in the arms. And while lifting weights while on IVs isn't the smartest idea, probably... I think port IV use is probably safer, because you won't be pulling at any temporary lines in your arms.
