hi everyone! i am mother to cameron, born 12.5.2006 with a newborn screen negative for any problems.

cameron has always been a tall, skinny boy, at the 60 percentile for length and head circumference but always the 40 or below for weight. at his last appt (7 months) he had dipped below the 10 percentile (15 lbs, 1 oz.). The doctor suggested possible testing if he did not put on weight in a month.

my questions are, cameron has really only had one cold in his life. as probably many of you, i've researched CF symptoms bc the doctor threw it out there. i think he has pretty salty skin...but i don't know what is normal in that area either...or if it matters that it's summer. he has only about 2 bms a day, no diarrhea and no constipation. he is fully breastfed with solids 2x a day.

so my question is, based on a negative newborn screen and his two symptoms (salty skin and growth issues) would any of you suspect CF? we have no family history...but i know that means next to nothing.

thanks all!

I believe the doctor wants to rule out CF. Preventative measures are the key so they try to catch it early.

Try not to worry too much (I know easier said than done). Did the Dr. give you any tips to try to pack the weight on in the next month?

This site is very helpful and I hope you find the answers you need.

My son is still undiagnosed after 3 failed sweat tests and a negative genetic test (70 mutations tested). I know how frustrating this all is.

I've learned with this disease that anything is possible, but your situation sounds probable that it isn't CF. Its good your doctor wants to test to rule it out, because at this age they can have CF and have very few symptoms.

I'm sure you are freaked out, so hang in there!! Knowing is always better than not knowing.
