Post Picc Questions

My picc was removed back in Oct, but I had a few post - picc questions for you guys.

1 - How long should any pain last in your picc arm? My arm doesn't hurt all the time.. This may sound weird, but sometimes when I put on lotion with my picc arm or if I were to hold a bottle of windex with my picc arm and then pump the handle, it gets kind of sore. Like my arm goes stiff and there's this weird pain. Is this normal?

2 - Can my next picc go in my left arm again, or will it have to go in the right arm?

3 - It seems like after m picc, the left side of my chest looks more "veiny" that what it did before. I'm not sure if that's normal? I am very pale anyways, and very self concious about my "see through skin." My right side doesn't have all that. Is this crazy or does anyone else have this problem too?

I have "phantom" pain from my last 3 picc. If I hit it or even scrub too hard in the shower or move certain ways. So its not uncommon. The vein was punctured & that takes awhile to heal or it might be scar tissue that we feel also.

If you feel up to having your next picc in the same arm go ahead. I try to alternate my arms to give them a break, but if I know I am in for a long haul & I just had it in one arm, but I prefer that arm again, I go for it.

As to the see through skin....I have it all over. I cant say its one side more then the other. I dont notice a side changing from piccs except to the better because my rings fit better from the fluids etc LOL!

Your Nr.3 sounds similar to what happened to me with my port:
I had a thrombosis around the port catheter (not in the port, its still working). I did only notice these suddenly appearing extra veins and showed it to my doc, they took an ultrasound and found the thrombosis.

they were only about to get one or two piccs in my left arm so the majority of mine have been in the right arm and its definitly more "veiny" than the left. only on the underside though-the part thats against my ribs and then they spread over onto my chest. kinda weird...but you're not alone!
