Hello everyone.. My name is Melissa and I am 25 years old, I will be 26 in April.. I have been married to my husband Michael who is 30 for almost 5 years now.. My husband has CF and he was diagnosed @ age 7.. We have been praying for a child.. We are planning to do iui using donor sperm sometime next year... Then we plan to do invitro to try for a biological child when I am probably around age 30... Then we also plan to adopt a few years following that... I would love to hear anyone's experience in dealing w/ any of these options... Also anyone who has any other advice on fertility treatment and things related to it I would greatly appreciate it.. I will be 27 when we try for the first option in our pregnancy journey.. I am going back to school this fall to hopefully have most of my associates degree if not all of it finished by the time we would have our first child if the iui works that is.. Then I plan to do an online or a one night a week bachelors degree program..... My husband is very content in his career but I have a goal to work w/ children and not be stuck in an office all day. I either want to teach or be a social worker. Please pray for us during our journey... I love my husband & he is the best! I just wish they would find a cure to CF.. That would be the greatest thing!!!

Your love for your hubby is beautiful. I wish you both the very best. Julie can help you alot-she's been through what you are dealing with.
As far as your fertility-get your body the healthiest you can, good nutrition in the body is the best environment to conceive and nourish a baby. Stay positive-convince yourself this will happen to you guys.

Melissa,
My husband has CF and we were successful with IVF using his surgically removed sperm and ICSI. We now have a beautiful 17 month old son who is the image of his Dad (DS is a carrier for CF). I would strongly recommend not waiting to do IVF until you are 30 you best chance for a pregnancy is while you are still in your 20s. The big clinics who specialize in Male factor infertility are SIRM www.haveababy.com, NYU or Cornell www.ivf.org your local OB are RE are going to be out of their league with MF.
Hope that helps.
Noreen wife to Steve w/cf 38, mother to Evan 17 months carrier.

I have CF adn we did IVF after trying femara and clomid to get pregnant. If you are interested in IVF I would be happy to discuss with you just send me a PM or I can email you my blog as it describes in detail what I did as well as a bit about my pregnancy. I would also have to disagree somewhat with Noreen as my doctors here in MI are great and have alot of success with ICSI and MF, they have wonderful stats and are a great price compared to the bigger places. YOu could do two of their cycles for same price as one at some larger places. However that being said you do have to be very choosey as there are alot of people out there. There are some national databases, sorry dont have sites off hand, where you can compare stats including their rates multiples, success etc. I would also agree tthat if you think IVF needed sooner is better than later, since we did it when I was 26 and we used ICSI to avert my DH's MF we were given about 60% chance of success but once you hit 30 it drops and 35 drops it even more -- not to say it is still not a good option I just owuld say better sooner than later since you have to pay so much $$ for it having stats on yoru side help.

noreen,
we have a fertility center here in our area that has specialists in dealing with ivf and icsi as well as iui procedures. so we should be fine. they also specialize in the sperm aspiration and everything that we need to have done for our procedure. thanks for the info though i do appreciate it. we should be doing this sometime next year i will be 27. that is when we planned to do our first procedure. then our 2nd @ around 30 and our 3rd around 33. we don't want our children too close 2gether. we did find out that the facility here has 3 companies they work w/ for financing the procedure which certainly helps. i will let u know as soon as we get started w/ the process. just keep us in your thoughts and prayers. thanks to everyone for the info.
