Prednisolone Dosage.....NEED HELP PLEASE!!!!

My son was prescribed prednisolone today after being sick for the last week. When I got home with it it said to give him 10 ML daily for the first five days and then 8 ml for 1 day, 6 ml for one day, 4 ml for one day, and then 2 ml the last two days....well that seemed like alot to me. So then I noticed that they only gave me 32 ML in the whole bottle with no refills...way less than what was prescribed. So now the pharmacy and the doctors office is closed and he needs to take this tonight. So I know something is wrong with the either the dosage prescribed or the amount they gave me. Can someone please tell me how much to give him tonight until I can call tomorrow and get this figured out. He is 4 years old and weighs about 34 pounds. Thanks!!

Based on what you said the prescription says, I would think you would be save giving him 8, 9 ml, or even 10 tonight and then figure out why he didn't get enough medicine tomorrow.

My son safely took 60mg per day (30mg twice a day) a few months ago. But prior to that, his prescription history has been significantly less (10 mg per day). He is 7 yrs old and weighs around 60lbs. My point is that there is quite a range of dosing this medication and there is no way of guessing what your doctor intended.

My advice is to wait to talk to a doctor or pharmacist until you are clear on the dosage. If you feel you must start administering tonight, I would find a way to contact a professional.

I would give him that amount tonight. its only 2ml more than the 8 mls (that is about 1 1/2 teaspoons). I use to tech at a pharmacy and sounds like they didn't give you enough to do a taper, or even for the first four days. You probably need about 72 mls to successfully complete the initial dose and then taper. Call the doc in the AM. I use to work at walgreens and if we did a RX fill wrong we refunded your money.Hope he feels better
