Prednisone

I was feeling really tight for 4 or 5 days and my PFT's were down about 5-6%. They prescribed an oral and check PFT's again next week. A few days later they called in Prednisone because of my complaints of tightness. The tightness was bad enough to require a heating pad. Anyway, the day I was to start it my chest was feeling much better and much less tight. I don't know why....might have been the few days on abx....might have been the end of my menstrual cycle. My question is should I go ahead and do the steroid burst since they are looking at PFT's again or are steroids so hard on your system that it would be best to not do them if I am feeling better and see how PFT's are next week.I want to do what I need to do to protect my lungs....but, I know steroids can be difficult for your body to come off of. What are your thoughts guys, I really need some advice?

IF you feel a big enough difference then I would hold off. I would let the doctor know tho.

IF something worsens or your pfts arent up enough then maybe you want to reconsider it.

Steroids help the lungs a lot, but they do a number on the rest of you. Short term isnt quite as bad, but it can still happen.

I happen to be in love with Prednisone because it makes me feel so good. Last time I had it (on the last week of IV's) I felt like I didn't even have CF. Feels so good.

I personally love Prednisone. Sometimes I worry that I may be addicted to it because I feel soooo much better when I'm on it. When I'm not on it, I can def. tell a big difference and my quality of life just isn't as good. I would see how you feel for a day or two and then if the tightness returns or gets worse I would try the Pred.

If you do decide to start the Prednisone, be careful on when you are ready to end it. You have to ween yourself off it it. I know that sounds terrible, but if you jsut stop taking it, you might get some body soreness, like in your arms or legs. When go off of it, try taking one every other day for a little while to get used to not having as much in your system.

Hope this helps and hope you continue getting better!
