my fev1 before pregnancy was 79%-82%. the lowest it got after pregnancy was 47%. over the past year it's been in the middle seventies. its low right now because i haven't been taking care of myself. having a child takes a lot of of me, but i wouldn't trade it for the world.

I don't know what my FEVs were when I was pregnant. I didn't know I had CF back then and I wasn't under the regular care of a pulmonologist. Interpolating between my PFT in 1984 (85%) and my next PFT in 2006 (54%) or my current low 70s baseline to about the middle when my daughter was born (1995) would mean I was probably in the high 70s.

I felt great during my pregnancy and had no exacerbations. Full term delivery was another matter... I guess my O2 sats dropped so they had me on Oxy and they put a fetal monitor on Alexanna to make sure she didn't go into distress. Every time I pushed not much happened, but when I coughed she would move down the birth canal some more. So the doctor had me literally cough over and over again (for 2 hours). I didn't deliver my daughter, I coughed her out.

My PFT's were 97-109 preprego. Now they are 70-80 when I take care of myself. Before babies I was never hospitalized for CF and now I have been in three times since 2001. This year I stopped working and have dedicated to my husband and family that I would take better care of myself. That is the key. No one could tell me that I couldn't have children. Know this though; what the docs advise is true in that it takes a LOT out of you and your body to have babies and then to have children. Although, I wouldn't change a thing.
