pregnancy concern

I have mild CF and I am 17 weeks pregnant and have noticed the last few days that when doing my respiratory therapy in the mornings I am having sharp stabbing pain localized to just below my belly button. It seems to be brought on by excessive coughing, as my morning symptoms tend to be worse since I've been pregnant. It goes away fast but I feel the need to clutch my belly when I know I'm gonna cough to reduce the pain. Did anyone else have this during thier pregnancy? If so, should I be concerned about this? If anyone can shed some light on this I would really appreciate it, thanks.

i had pains like this in different areas of my belly. its probably just pressure from baby, or growing uterus muscles pushing up on the lungs and diaphragm.
if you're really concerned, of course mention it to your doc.
i also had some braxton hicks starting at 20 weeks, they got very annoying. there's all kinds of weird things going on in you right now. but if it was something serious i think you'd just know.

I recall clutching my belly while coughing so that it didn't feel like it was pulling muscles in there. Also, I coughed so hard with pregnant that I either cracked a rib or moved it out of place. Definitely stuff is moving inside. Ask your doctor to be sure though. I had tons of ultrasounds that the insurance all paid because of high risk.

Hi there,

When I was pregnant, I would get very sharp pains in the hip area whenever I would cough. This iss due to the round ligaments stretching as the uterus grows. The pain can be felt really anywhere below your belly button or to the sides as well. This was very uncomfortable and made it difficult to cough hard. So that would be my guess for your pain. Obviously if it gets worse or you have contractions or bleeding, call your doctor right away. But most likely it's just the round ligaments.
