Ok today was my first apt. the doctor is wonderful and he really knows his stuff abotu cf and babies from what i seen. The exams were uncomfortable but i do them for me and my fiance's baby. my fiance is named clint and we are getting married next month on the 30th. So far the pregnancy is looking great.
i do have a question. Due to the mucus in our bodies would it affect breast feeding. He really wants me to bc its so healthy for the baby and myself. For many reasons. I really need this question to be answered bc the doc doesnt really know and theres no way to test it either. Please help with this.

i appreciate it greatly <3

I would think that it would be alright, just that it would take your nutrients away, bc of the baby taking them,so Ive read. my two cents

First congrats on your pregnancy and upcoming
marriage.<img src="i/expressions/heart.gif" border="0"> I wish you much happiness.  I have
breast fed my three children for up to a year each and had no
problems with milk production at all.  I do believe that if
you can breast feed,  that your child will benefit from it but
on the outside chance you cannot because of medications you might
have to go on after the pregnancy please do not feel guilty.
 Your child will thrive nicely in spite of that. Your good
health is important.  Try to take care of yourself, don't
worry and take one day at a time.  And keep smiling mommy!<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif" border="0">

i thank you guys so much for replying...and grandma kitty I WUV YOU UR SO GREAT i thank you for giving me that beautiful wedding dress and a wonderful man to love. I know he will be a wonderful dad. everyone says so. I hope this pregnancy goes well so you can see your grandchild <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif" border="0">

I was curious, too, though my children were 16, 18 and 22 when I was diagnosed. The nutritionist at the CF clinic gave me this article: Breast-milk composition in women with Cystic Fibrosis: report of two cases and a review of the literature. It is from the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition 1989;49:612-7. here is a quote from the abstract "Milk secreted by women with CF appears to be physiologically normal, safe for the infant, and breast-feeding mothers with CF should no longer be discouraged."

Hi and congrats!

I have a 21 month old son and am still breastfeeding him. I highly encourage you to do it! He has never had a drop of formula and I don't see any reason (barring some medications) that you can't breastfeed if you're committed to it. Find some local support like La Leche League and research what help your hospital provides. My hospital has a mothers resource center w/ lactation consultants available to help at any hour. I went twice when my son was smaller.

Don't let any doctor (or anyone else for that matter) tell you that you can't brestfeed just because you have CF. Since I have become a mother I have found that uneducated doctors do the most disservice to breastfeeding.
