Hey guy,

So I'm 19 years old and recieved my double lung transplant almost 6 years ago. Ive been doing great, knock on wood, never was sick or had any type of rejection. I know im young but it has always been a huge dream of mine to one day have children. I see many successful pregnancy stories posted on here, which inspires me a bit. I know my storys a little different being I have had a transplant. If anyone can help me or share some of your stories, I would really appreciate it =]]]

The stories I've heard of- are people who have had children FIRST. Then they had their transplant.
As far as anything I have ever heard, once you have a transplant, doctors will tell you that you should NOT get pregnant. This is something they should have discussed with you before you were transplanted.

I am not saying that you can't get pregnant or shouldn't. But I would highly suggest talking to your doctor first and finding out what the risks are and the effects of the drugs would be on your pregnancy.
Please do write back if you find anything out that is different from what I have heard......

The meds are probably the reason. They are probably bad for a developing fetus. But I would ask your doc before you rule it out. Good luck!

You are doing so well, my advice to you is to not take a chance. You have an extremely high chance of going into chronic rejection after carrying a child. My Anna' looked into surrogacy. You can have your eggs harvested. She looked more in depth into having child and what it might do to her health after transplant about two years ago. More recently, she actually went to the doctor to discuss freezing her eggs for the future. They look at the health of your ovaries to see if you have the need to freeze now or if you really don't need to or if you can wait a while longer. Anna' gave deep thought into the desire to have children. The whole fairness issue and all. She ultimately decided she would one day like to have a child and the best way for her and her health would be by surrogate. She even had two friends that volunteered their uterus. Volunteered, how do you ask a friend to do that for you? We were so moved by their generosity. Anway... As a mom, I say, please consider surrogacy with your own eggs. Much luck to you and your ultimate decision. May you continue to have good health!
