My first pregnancy I went off of Claritin and did Chloretrimeton. Its also over the counter. It helped my allergy symptoms, and was a better option for me during pregnancy.

Congratulations on your pregnancy! I'm on my 2nd right now, just a few weeks ahead of you.

Maybe the doc feels that you really need it and nothing else would help you enough? Allergies can run you down. In those cases its a risk/benefit situation to consider. My docs are very conservative when it comes to pregnancy and medications. If I really need a medication, I stay on it. If its negotiable, then of course being pregnant I want to be on the least amount of meds necessary.

Yes I take albuterol, hypertonic saline (not a 'med' really, but i take it), pulmozyme, zithromax on/off as needed, and I'm on ceftin for a few weeks to clear up a mild infection. I'm not on any allergy meds currently.
I had a high risk OB, and a genetic counselor who specializes in meds during pregnancy review, change and approve all my meds for both my pregnancies.

First of all, CONGRATS!! I am just about 17 weeks pregnant and I take zyrtec. Both allergy pills are pregnancy category "B" which is considered to be reasonably safe. I tried going off of the zyrtec and my asthma symptoms got pretty bad. Needless to say, I'm back on. Hope this helps <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

P.S. Like MamaScarlett, I'm also being closely followed by a high risk OB that is working hand-in-hand with my CF team.
