My husband and I watched SICKO last night. I am just curious how much all of us are paying for some of our medications. I am sure it varies here in the US. I would also like to know how much some of you who are not in the US have to pay. Here are some of my costs:

Monthly
Premium: $320 for the family
Pulmozyme: $60
TOBI: $60 every other month
enzymes: $20 every 3 months
Advair: $20 every 3 months
Zithro: $20 every 3 months

That is just the tip of the iceberg. I didn't include hopspital bills from last year or diabetic supplies. How do we all do this????

Nothing. I live in canada, and have good private insurance on the side. I have a vest and an eflow(paid for by the goverment, with no issues) and do tobi/pulmozone and other expensived drugs. I do home IVs a few times a year too, and they cost nothing.
My private insurance will sometimes pay for non perscription drugs too. I got my doctor to write a letter and now my raniditine is paid for.

I am very fortunate. While hubby is actively employed we do not contribute towards the premiums. Upon his retirement there is a % that we will have to. That % varies depending on the age of his retirement.

We have a 3 tier drug formulary so depending on if the meds are genetic, name brands or non formulary depends on $5, $15 or $30.

I dont pay for hospital admits at all. My doctors co pays are $18 except for CF doctor because she isnt participating so my primary (husbands insurance) pays 80% & the balance gets billed to Medicare.

I really, really am fortunate, but even with my good coverage....when you are on numerous meds (not counting hubby or daughter) it adds up.

I dont know how people do it. It scares the crap out of me to be honest.

I have just recently stopped working, but with the job I was on they had blue cross and blue shield.... When I went into the hospital I found out that they denied paying for anything because I had one lousy month that I had an elapse in coverage!!! These insurance companys are something else im telling you!!! Thank goodness I have my husbands insurance, my enzymes are 90.00 every month
tobi was 35.00 every other month, but going off that due to wanting to get pregnant. And the Pulmozyme was coming up 300.00 ..... I called genetech company through pulmozyme and told them we can not afford this at all with all my other diabetic supplies as well and they said they have a endowment program, this is allowing me to get my pulmozyme every month for a year and the company is paying for it through the cf pharmacy..... after a year they will call you and re submit everything..... I hope this is help for you.... I dont know the guidelines but my husband does make alot of money, but we signed up before we were married, when I called them and told them the insurance company would only pay for all but 300.00 they said it didnt matter that I could still go through them to get the medicine...... Good Luck I hope this helps a bit
