Talking about insurance premuims my husband changed jobs 2 yrs ago, not because he wanted to but because he worked for a small company and our premiums got up to $850.00 A MONTH--OVER $11,000.00 a year!!! (and that is what we were paying- his employer also paid money to the insurance company) When he was only making $13.00 an hour that doesn't leave much left!! It was so depressing seeing his checks and all that money going out. Our son was really racking up the bills- he had to of almost hit the million dollar cap with the first insurance plan. We call him our million dollar baby. He had been there for 12 yrs and after our son was born, it just kept going up and up. He now has a job that we only pay $33 a week-- just over $1700.00 a year. So that is a big difference!! We are so grateful for that!!!!

Let me repeat that (as people seem to miss it or ignore it). <b>People in the US that want universal health care are NOT necessarily for socialized medicine.</b> Socialized medicine = government controls and runs all hospitals, clinics, etc. We are looking for a single-payer system. Just that our taxes go in and then the government pays for all health care. They DO NOT CONTROL IT... they simply pay for it.</end quote></div>

I agree Emily, that would certainly be ideal. However, that is sort of how Medicare works now (simplistically) - that the govt takes our taxes and then pays for healthcare for Medicare recipients. And, as an administator in the medical field, I can tell you with 100% certainty that the govt does not "simply pay for it" they have a great amt of control over the care that the recipients receive, what is covered, and mandates to medical providers. There is no way that the govt under any party will pay for something without having some level of control over it.

As I've said many times, anyone who casts their presidential vote on the issue of a promise of a medical system fix will be disappointed. My opinion, of course. But I truly believe that neither party wants people to be un or under insured or not have access to health care. But, as of yet, there has been no one (politician or otherwise) that has come up with a workable plan to solve "the problem". If they did we would have heard about it. My $.02 - take it or leave it.
